It is set way to far inwards so the glow from the numberplate lights and tail lights is pretty bad. Also there is a significant portion of the car itself in the frame.
Yes, that's exactly how my old picture was. In my email to the dealer I included the picture from a cheap $10 eBay camera, temporarily stuck in the same place. It was 10,000% better!

The new camera has similar field of view. Interestingly with the old camera, (which BTW I had replaced last year after pressuring my dealer), I could make the night time picture much better by shielding it from the number plate lights. I temporarily stuck a small U shaped piece of cardboard around the crapcam and it was ALMOST useable.
I'm interested to know if the "new" replacement camera offer is better than my current one- certainly no guide lines on mine. It would be nice to have them. Might have to look at running that extra wire.......

The camera is still great for backing onto the trailer connection!

Cheers
David

Rear safety camera

I did a similar thing to Futuresystem, except directly via the dealer, who did the groundwork and got approval within a week. I've had it for a few months and although it's better than the piece of junk it replaced, it still leaves a lot to be desired.
Mine does not have the grid lines either, whereas the POS it replaced did. Go figure?

Re: Rear safety camera

OK all, so here's the deal - as told to me by the service department this morning...

When you accept the FCA offer to have the newcam fitted (if you got a letter), the dealer will arrange to fit the new moulded camera and a new wiring loom. (I have to say that I was originally sceptical that the loom would be included, but apparently it is!)

This installation WILL provide dynamic lines and WILL provide an option in the UConnect to switch the lines on/off. (The critical thing is that the vehicle is updated so that the code XAC is added to the VIN in DealerCONNECT as a "Dealer Installed Option" - and then the car updated through the wiTECH).

The fitting instructions are essentially the same as the corresponding US kit. FWIW, I have a printed copy of the instructions for fitting the newcam and wiring loom to our RHD GC's (dated 28 Jan 2015). The service staff said that the job is "quite involved and takes a day". I'd believe that looking through the 17 pages of instructions!

Even though I have 'hacked' my installation to have dynamic lines, I'll be having the upgrade done so that it's all under warranty and 'proper'.

Kudos where kudos is due - FCA have (eventually) listened to the significant amount of feedback on this issue and are doing the right thing so that their product matches what was advertised in the brochure back in 2013.

Perhaps people would like to report what you're told by your dealer if you ask the same questions as I did this morning.

MMM.

Got the letter the other day and have already passed a copy to the stealer so they can have all relevant parts available for the July service.

Could you please post a PDF of the instructions so we can all have a read.

I have also got the P67 Recall at the sae time for the occupant restraint module issue (letter passed to stealer again).

Pics of your install and gridlines (dynamic) would be great.

Many thanks for your posts and updates.

Adrian.

Having come from a lexus r

It IS a very poor quality camera, period.
As I've said previously, the camera on my mates Holden Caprice is like a high quality SLR camera, whether night or day, compared to my reversing camera. There is just no comparison. The camera I now have does the job, but it's nothing to rave about.

And it seems like you people who have just been patient and waited will a actually end up with a better setup than those of us who fought for and got a better one. (No grid lines on ours!)

Had mine done today and WOW!!! what a difference. I can actually see in the dark. It even picks up the red glow from the brake lights and no halo effect.

Got the active gridlines, however, no option to turn them off at the moment. Would appreciate some photos of peoples Uconnect with the option showing on an upgraded Laredo so I can take it to the dealer as evidence.

Regards

Adrian.

Re: Rear safety camera

After much argument with JA I was amongst the first few that had a "revised" camera fitted albeit without grid lines. I've also received the FCA "replacement offer" letter and have indicated to the dealer that I'm more interested in having the grid lines activated rather than having the replacement camera. However the service manager has told me that the grid lines are integral to the camera and not generated by the U-connect system as such. This doesn't make sense to me. Could someone clarify this ? eg; does the camera have the grid lines or are they generated electronically via U-connect ?
