Re: Rear safety camera

I would get the new loom, I had the option to turn off/on but needed the loom to activate. U have nothing to loose if they are replacing for free.

The US delearship are charging $595 for activating Nav. I checked with few dealers in Sydney and they said it cant be done ( as usual BS from them). There was a Tsb on how to activate Nav back in Nov 2013.
Yes, the RJ3 (the Uconnect in your Laredo is an 8.4A) is nav-ready, but it needs to be activated as per these TSB instructions.

The hardware in the RJ4 (8.4AN) as found in Limited & above is different to the RJ3/8.4A - I believe that the RJ4 has an additional memory & processor that is capable of rendering 3D buildings. Aussie Laredos have a GPS receiver on board so they can get location and time, but there is no additional sensor assist (AFAIK).

Have a look at this page (admittedly for US units) to get an idea of the differences/similarities.

FWIW, the maps are old - Q4 2012 and I've not seen an update from Chrysler for ROW...

Is anyone still interested in the instructions for this upgrade? I've been very busy and out of the loop for a month, so I've lost track of interest in this...

You've not seen all the mucking around that they need to do (ripping off panels, pulling up carpet, threading cables, pulling out pins from delicate connectors) - the list is endless and all for the same result I have already - and potentially some unintended stuff ups.

My experience with dealers and mechanics is that they're all time and cost driven which means you'll get the cheapest & quickest job possible. I swore after the dealer stuffed up the installation of the towbar electrics and the after-market reversing sensors that I'd think twice before letting them do anything other than service the vehicle ever again...

Appreciate your view, but I'm still considering.

I think there is something 'deeper', beyond the software of the Uconnect system which is causing variations in what each of us get. DAB.. Gridline...Map buttons.

Re: Rear safety camera

Thanks Red Peekay, Bigskiddy and others. I'm waiting for my dealer to arrange my camera replacement so will make sure I ask about the extra wiring required for the Uconnect lines display. Thanks to all for the info

Re: Rear safety camera

This has been a interesting read. I have a MY15 Laredo which DAB and the option for gridlines, it's checked on and can't be unchecked yet no gridlines are visible. I haven't received any letter so what would my best option be to have the gridlines available. Would it requires just the loom or also a camera change?

Hi Dezeption,
Still waiting for my new camera to be installed so can't help at this stage - I live in a regional area so I'd imagine the metro areas will get priority. Will let u know what happens.

If the MY15 has the proper camera but does not have the gridlines then this is what was advertised with the cars specs.
Check the posts from MadMapMan a couple of pages back describing how to enable the trigger wire for the gridlines - you might be able to do it IDK.

FCA are only replacing the ones (MY14's) that were fitted with the rubbish camera and the loom which now they are able to do the gridlines.

They might be doing them in order the cars were sold. The ones already replaced seem to be bought in late 2013 , early 2014. I haven't got a letter yet and mine was purchased later in 2014.

PS: Someone pushed my crap cam back into the tailgate again thinking it was the boot release. That's the 3rd time now. He did a good job of it. It took me nearly 5 minutes of trying to extract it back out.
