as you said, it's as preference thing.
Exactly Big Skiddy and 67HR, it is a preference thing.

They have accommodated the preference between drivers on the KL Cherokee.

I have a choice on that vehicle (my KL not our WK2 just to be clear), through Uconnect, to display static, dynamic or both at the same time (if I check both tick boxes through Uconnect).

For the life of me I don't understand the inconsistency between vehicles and the firmware when it comes to MY14+ vehicles be they a Grand Cherokee or a KL.

Re: Rear safety camera

No grid lines for me. Apparently my MY14 was not one of the approved VINs that got the letter sent out.

Looks like I'll be going down the self fix route when I can be bothered ripping trim panels out and running the required cable to active the grid line feed.

Re: Rear safety camera

I spoke to a person on the customer support number and they said wait and see if you get a letter and if not, come back to customer support and they would organise it. Didn't get letter, called customer support and got a different person, they told me no, go to your dealer. Left car with dealer for 10K service and they say the will check it out, no conclusive answer when I picked it up, chased dealer up twice over a 3 week period and still no answer (I suspect dealer hasn't done a thing), still waiting and hope to hear back tomorrow. If no luck, i'll go back to customer service. Failing that, i'll wire it up myself.

btw, mines a MY15 build and has the latest camera confirmed by the dealer.

Re: Rear safety camera

I never realised how bad mine was at night until I hired a Yaris in Melbourne and saw how significantly better the night vision was. During the day the resolution and picture is fine. At night I can see the tow ball but everything else is slightly blurred and affected by the surrounding lights causing haziness. In the dark it is hopeless. I have approached the dealer and asked for it to be replaced.

Hi,

Could you give me more information on this letter from Jeep. We have the exact same vehicle and I do not have the grid lines either. I was not aware that they could be implemented.

This issue with lines has been going for some time in this thread. Firstly, the lines will only work with a Jeep camera. You also need the extra wire cabled through to the camera and this option activated by Jeep.

I have the Jeep camera with the lines but no setting to deactivate them.

Re: Rear safety camera

Just got the car back after the "FCA" mandated camera upgrade. Had the new camera, didn't have the active lines however got the letter. Had to organise it through FCA as the dealer wasn't willing to proceed until authorised.

All good, active lines now available and can select/deselect through Uconnect.

The only downer was I also cleaned up a wombat a week back (for you non aussies read tree stump with legs!). Ran over him with the front right hand side wheel and came down on him just in front of the rear wheel. Only damaged the plastic splashguard that sits in front of the rear wheel. Dealer fixed it by replacing the splashguard. However in doing so they either forgot to replace the pins that hold the long black plastic body rail strip (front to back) to the body, or the clean broke them off because it's now loose. Back to the dealer I would suggest

Or Bunnings, in some thread somewhere on here, someone posted them as available form Bunnings.
See this thread for a US user who gets some for a Fog light replacement (my memory is decent again) - Fog Lamp Replacement Guide: 2015 Overland (PIC HEAVY)

our 2014 march built diesel larado was in for it's 40 k service so i mentioned the shitty camera! quick look to see which camera we had and with out hesitation said they will fix that aswell.
got in after the service and put into reverse and WOW what a difference in the day, the night is almost as good, plus we have the lines aswell that steer.
well worth the 2 hr drive both ways to Echuca JEEP.

Re: Rear safety camera

Finally scored the wiring upgrade and got the grid lines on my oct 2014 build Laredo. Was told by my dealer that Jeep were doing it as a courtesy thing even though I didn't get a letter.

I took my wk2 jun build (I think) and I got the letter, it specifically had said I can get grid lines, however I took it to my dealer and he stated, that my Laredo cannot get the grid lines, I spoke to FCA and they said tell the dealer to talk to us, I left the car and the discussion with the dealer (Mackay) I return to pick the car and find that the jeep Laredo cannot have the gridlines as this model is not compatible. Any ideas, or is FCAs customer care clueless
