Re: Rear safety camera

Hi barboots, I thought that would be the case and before picking up the car I had requested this of the dealer and he agreed to my logic that this should work by adding a switch. They spliced this in and the cbus picked up the discrepancy and would not allow it to work. They had to install a whole new wiring harness. Would love to hear if someone has done this, just a little worried about trying as the dealer spent over half a day and I would possibly need a new wiring harness if it didn't work. They may have just lied to me I guess and not even tried it.

Re: Rear safety camera

I think that your second scenario sounds more likely, but to be fair some of the multicore cables that accompany automotive camera systems are hard to work with if you're not an electronics guy. The conductors can be hair thin, and hard to strip back and terminate. You need better tools than in many mechanical or auto electrical workshops. Hence my suggestion to use an electronics workshop; the kind that does "better" audio installations for example.

But it's not overall difficult. A "quad video switch" will probably be how I do mine... when I finally give up using my Prado to drag the boat

Actually I had hoped to install a NavTV or Lockpick, but the former seem to be stringing me our with vapourware... and the latter were very clear that they are not interested in Australian sales. It's a shame, as I really want navigation data entry in motion.

Cheers,
Steve

MY14 Laredo Rear Park Camera Installed

Finally had my camera installed at Frankston Jeep.

The usual fishbowl view with no grid lines.

BUT, I must say it is a help in reversing up to van hookup and tight spots.

The resolution in my view is not bad, but I have never had a rear park camera before to compare it to.

So, not sure where to now??

Bit tired, think I might go home now.

Doesn't look to bad Hymer.
Here's some photos of mine. Does your camera look the same as mine?

I think some may be having dramas at night because the led number plate lights may be shining onto it.

Wow mate, that first photo looks a bit nasty. Is that how everyone else's have been installed?

Given the view includes the reflective area of the number plate, you could expect problems from stray lumens off it. Can you shroud the plate a little? You can also make a mask out of electrical tape and stick it over the lens to block the outer part of the view.

The fact that this has turned into a lottery is a disgrace.

Ciao,
Steve

Re: Rear safety camera

I think you are showing the camera in its best application there Hymer in a well lit area that has no direct sunlight. Let me know what you think of it when it has to handle outside light and how you go at night. To give you an example we parked our MY14 next to the brother inlaws matching MY12 - we have all the same options on the cars. His camera is considerably clearer and is able to see out the back of the car at night. Also wonder why I have guidelines showing on mine????? The fisheye looks the same display angle as ours so it is possibly the same camera. Looks the same as the one installed above.

WTF, did they chew that hole into the plastic to make the camera fit.

I wanted to see the other side and these are what I found.... image-1770290159.jpg image-2114423869.jpg image-3520099917.jpg image-1549262015.jpg

There was another loom I forgot to take a pic of, but it had a large white plug with only Red and Black wires with a label that said "Rear light bar, no camera"

Haha. Trust me based on their mechanical skills it could have been much worst.

Maybe you need a wheel alignment?
