Those cameras look fish eye. I would hate that.

Re: Rear safety camera

I have just bought a Laredo and love it, but these camera stories are starting to worry me... I am wondering how long di dmost people have to wait after receiving their car to finally get the camera fitted?

Disgusting.Do not accept this.
Demand a new panel as well.
You can see daylight through the joins and see where water has come through as well.

I am still waiting for mine since 30-Sept. The dealer has offered an after-market camera but I would love to compare both. The dealer says Jeep are holding them up and Jeep are saying they are waiting for the dealers to order them. Hence I don't know the timeframe between dealer order and delivery. Does anybody know ?

Based on others feedback, I would get the dealers after market one. The ones jeep are supplying look to be crap as crap gets.
Ask if they have one fitted that you can view to approve it is acceptable.

All,

See attached for MY14 Laredo camera details - camera battery was flat in final part of install, but replacement camera ($23.00 AUD) works fine day and night.

That's atrocious David. I'd want to speak to the guy who did it with his manager. It's just awful work.

Interesting that every video connection is unshielded... rather shabby in itself. Anyone getting interference from their phones are looking at the likely reason.

Cheers,
Steve

David,
Where did you get the disgusting work carried out?
You said you are from the central west.
Who fitted the camera?
I hope you get this sorted.
I can't believe people have such little regard for some one elses property.

I am from the Central West of NSW, but the vehicle was purchased new in Victoria.
You would have to wonder why the first 100mm cable from camera unit is shielded then all cabling from 1st connector in tailgate to display unit appear to be standard cabling including connectors in between.

Re: Rear safety camera

2014 Laredo owners are certainly getting shafted with these dealer fitted cameras……
On our 2012 Laredo, the reversing camera was also a dealer fit item, but at that time it involved a complete replacement of the chrome trim under the back window. This was a factory part - the camera and the trim was identical to the other WK2 models.
The only place the dealer could stuff up was in the removal and replacement of the interior trim when they ran the wiring.
i recall seeing a stack of Mopar boxes containing these new trim pieces in the dealer workshop at the time of our delivery, and the salesman walked me out to the rubbish bin and showed me 5 chrome trims that had been replaced on other deliveries they'd done..

I'd ask the question why can't the dealers fit the OE parts like they did for the 2012 and 2013 models?
Is it that there is such a backlog that the dealers are resorting to shortcutting the process?
Or is it that some bright spark has had the idea to save some money - with a predictable outcome….

If I was ordering a 2014 Laredo (and thinking about it!), I'd be insisting the camera be the OE with the replacement trim.
John

Because the camera is from the knowing folk in Asia... and the loom "is a Jeep thing".

Ciao,
Steve

You are lucky you got a reversing camera at all, I bought my GC 2014 in November, still waiting for the blasted thing. Poor show from Jeep shipping without while advertizing that it is factory fitted and the Dealer, Heartland Castle Hill, not even telling us about it until we took delivery. Love the car but likely would not buy it again because of very bad experience overall with customer service by both Jeep Australia and their Dealer.
