I know it is easy fore to say MP14, but my comments about paying 100% are for dramatic effect. If there is one bit of advice I could give prospective purchasers it would be - do not accept delivery unless everything is complete with the vehicle. JA will lie, squirm and stonewall all the way once you have left the dealers yard.

I have lodged an official complaint with Fair Trading NSW. When asked how I would like to have this resolved I said, either they fit the camera or I want a full refund. Will keep you posted how this pans out.

Hi everyone

I took a few photos of my new camera(second one) let me know what you think.
You can see the entrance to the garage is distorted and the marker lines are a little off center but not as much as it appears in the photo.
The clarity is much improved. The camera is no where as good as the upmarket models because they have sensor units.

Excellent pick thanks.

Still looks bad to me - the fish eye effect is pretty crook. No where near as good as the MY12 version.

Has anyone attempted to fit or replace a camera in a MY14 Laredo? If so was it complex or easy. also what did you replace it with?

Re: Rear safety camera

A couple of people have fitted their own. If it is not in this thread, then it is lost in the general Aus MY14 thread.

I haven't seen any "how to" though Snuke, have I missed it?

From the pictures I've seen following this topic, it's going to be way easier if the Laredo has been cabled for the dealer fitted camera already. Otherwise you have the cable run up to the head unit to tackle. That said, the dealer cabling is not shielded, so better performance may be gained from doing it yourself. Until someone does a replacement this is conjecture, but video does prefer better cabling.

Note I have not sighted the connection on the Uconnect... which may be a problem to match.

If you already have the dealer camera installed, swapping shouldn't pose too much difficulty. There is a Weatherpack / Deutsch / OEM type connection in the tailgate... you'd probably leave it and cut/join/solder/insulate on the camera side cable. Note many Choina cams have super thin conductors in their cables... sometimes that horrible cotton stranded rubbish... so buying better will probably have advantage here too.

The main things are that the camera has an appropriate field of view, a wide dynamic range, and fits the car nicely.

Personally, if I was buying a Laredo I would just get the cabling done and ask they don't tie it along the sills. If noise was a problem after fitting my own camera I'd re-cable... hopefully using the OEM cabling to pull through the replacement. Surprisingly to me, noise doesn't seem to be so much of an issue, so it looks like this would be unnecessary.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Rear safety camera

It was shown roughly. They replaced the OE camera to one they got of eBay.

Here are Peanuts posts, but there was another that had a slight connection photo.
And people wonder why i want posts done in the relevant thread.
