Mine was fitted today by the dealer (MY14 Laredo).

I was used to my Pajero camera which was excellent in terms of quality.

This one just seems very grainy and not particulalry clear. Sort of like a webcam picture from 15 years ago. I guess it will do but thought I'd resurrect the thread to see if other MY14 Laredo owners who have had a camera fitted think the quality is ok.

Cheers
Andrew
I have one fitted to my MY14 Laredo and the quality is very poor. The worst al any vehicle I have had a rear camera on.

Re: Rear safety camera

I have put up with the dealer fitted rear camera (fisheye) on my 2014 for over 6 months now and it is pathetic, yes you can back up to your boat or van but you will go cross eyed trying to compensate for the exaggerated view, night vision is zero, bright blinding rear reverse lights only, thank goodness I grew up in the days when mirrors were the go, Jeep Australia you went backwards on this item. Absolute junk and an insult to Jeep buyers.

Re: Rear safety camera

Still waiting to have mine fitted 3 months now.

My plan is to have them fit it and then replace the camera with a higher quality unit. Let them do all the wiring and updates required for camera operation first though.

Re: Rear safety camera

Got a call from the dealer - the rear view camera is in and I am having it fitted next week (8 weeks after vehicle pick up). If the quality of the picture is as disappointing as suggested in this thread what sort of camera were you looking at to replace the Jeep one?

I would suggest you get them to fit the camera, then prior to leaving their workshop, you test it. If it is not upto standard, complain, and show them the brochure where the camera is pictured.
The camera should be at least equal in quality to the brochure.

Take the after market option. The Jeep supplied ones are crap.

I picked up my Laredo in mid Feb 2014 and waited until the first week in May 2014.

I was 100th on the back order then, and a couple of other dealer service departments I spoke to were in the same boat.

Certainly not worth the wait for the crappy cheap camera that was put in.

I am taking mine back to another dealership to see if they can improve the resolution/focus during the day and the total inadequacy in the night.

I expect to be given the standard line of "that's what Chrysler gave us", so I will be definitely going for a better after market replacement camera.

I am certainly interested in one of the previous post's about sourcing a better camera from China, and as another previous post shows that the installed camera is from China, I will be no worse off.

How to cheapen a good car and screw with the company reputation with crap accessories.

Re: Rear safety camera

If you follow this link from Jeep.com.au it implies that the reversing camera that is standard on the Grand Cherokee is a Parkview, not an after market one from China.

http://www.jeep.com.au/features-a-specs/safety-a-security/jeep-grand-cherokee-parking-assist-systems

It does not indicate it excludes any models as the following text cut from the link shows

"Jeep Grand Cherokee Parking Assist Systems
Back out with grace with ParkView®(1) and available ParkSense®(1).
Standard on Grand Cherokee is ParkView Reversing Camera - a rearview camera that features an instrument-panel-mounted 16.5 cm touch screen, which shows a real-time view of what is behind your Grand Cherokee.
The available ParkSense Rear Park Assist System uses sound waves to detect nearby obstacles in and near the rear path of the vehicle to help you manoeuvre in tight spaces at parking speeds. Audio-visual indicators in the overhead display in the rear headlining of the vehicle alert you to the proximity of most large, stationary objects that might be outside your line of sight.
(Overseas model shown.)"

This link, again from Jeep Australia, when you scroll down to the bottom, shows a picture of Parkview camera that certainly is not a "fish eye" image.

http://www.jeep.com.au/grand-cheroke...eep_cherry_red

Am I missing something here ?

Where is the small print saying I get something different ?

That last line in brackets is what they will use to get out of it.

I believe that it only refers to the picture of the Jeep, not the content of the text.

Interesting legal case could ensue.
