Redarc Tow-Pro brake controller

Starting to deck out the new Overland and thought someone else may be interested because I just had a Tow-Pro fitted, the guys had a bit of trouble finding some where to fit it because of the depth of the knob unit and all the steel reinforcing in the dash. They ending up finding a spot for the knob to the left of the steering column, not a bad spot because you can see it through the spokes in the steering wheel.

The brains unit is mounted in the console below the gear shift.

Re: Redarc Tow-Pro brake controller

Looks like a neat job. Could I ask how long the job took. I just bought the controller today and the installers seem a little nervous. I am assuming a degree of dismantling of the dash may be required.

Re: Redarc Tow-Pro brake controller

Don't know exactly how long it took because they also fitted a six pad ERPS and an Anderson Plug, the whole lot took a day but I know it caused them some heart ache. From what I understand they removed the panels from above the pedals and disassembled the centre console, the grabbed power from the aux posts under the bonnet.

Looks like a good, neat job.

I'm having a towbar fitted today, and considering fitting one of these. Plans for a Redarc EBRH to be fitted on wednesday, but have not purchased yet.

How much did it the tow-pro cost?

That is all pretty easy to do.

Thanks for that. I was also thinking of getting an Anderson plug at the same time. The Redarc guy told me that the 14 jgc used a variable alternator and would require a DCDC charger in the tow vehicle to ensure sufficient charging voltage.

Any special tools needed? I may have a go myself. I am just a bit worried about where to pick-up the brake signal given the canbus and not wanting to stuff anything with the electronics. Any suggestions?

Re: Redarc Tow-Pro brake controller

Decided to go with the Tow-Pro, and changed to ARB Nundah as they are charging only $200 to fit on monday! Less than half the price of "mates rates"! (a friend of a friend!)

That's great. I'm needing a brake controller and had settled on the Tow-Pro because you only need a spot for the knob with the main unit stashed away out of sight but I wasn't sure where the knob could actually be placed and still be functional.

I had mine placed on the other side in line with the light switch.
