Rims - painting/powder coating

Hey, picking up a new set of 18" which are take-offs off of a MY14 Laredo to go on my new white Overland which is somewhere in the pacific as I type this.

I'm thinking they might look better in really dark charcoal or black and was looking for some inspiration. Anyone got any photos of what they've done to their rims?

Any comments about paint vs powder coat?

Cheers,

Jason.

Re: Rims - painting/powder coating

As your Overland is in the Pacific instead of on it, the wheels will be pointless.

Jokes aside, many people plasti dip, which is cheap and easy to do yourself and there are a ton of threads on here about doing that with pics for reference.
Another option is water transfers if you want to get tricky.

Re: Rims - painting/powder coating

My take on powder coating vs painting is;
Powder coating is stronger/harder to scratch than paint but is more expensive and harder to patch up if you chip or scratch the powder coating off. Some people have told me your only real option for scratched up powder coated rims, is to get them re-powder coated.

I went with paint seeing I go offroad abit but if I mostly drove onroad with a little bit of light off-roading, I probably would have gone with powder coating.

Re: Rims - painting/powder coating

I will always paint over powdercoat, for 2 reasons.
Paint is easier to touch up if you scratch or chip them and you can't powdercoat the plastic centre cap on the rim, so you'll still have a chrome centre.

Plus I can paint the rims myself.
Here's me with my son last year doing my 20's in Jeep Brilliant Black

End result

Re: Rims - painting/powder coating

I've also got a second set of MY12 Laredo 18's in the shed that I'll be painting gloss black in the next couple of weeks.
