Is there any consensus on whether there is a need for rust protection for beach driving. I'll probably only get three or four trips a year and will clean thoroughly after.

Tooves, you'll get a lot of opinions. My 2c - I don't do anything. I'm sceptical about the electronic rust protection. I believe the manufacturing process has come along way since the 70's. The panels are pretreated to prevent rust. This is why manufacturers now give rust warranties. Clean your car well incl underbody before you go and after you get back, don't drive in beach water and you shouldn't have any problem. There is another thread about the wheel hubs corroding pretty badly. I would reccommend you read that and take their advice. Still haven't taken my wheels off to check mine, too scared.
I've never depended on anything more than what the factory provided. The next good rainfall after a trip to the beach I take advantage of Mother Nature's gift, and drive through a couple of deep puddles.
I think the folks who drive in areas that get a lot of snow get more salt on the underbodies than we get on a trip to the beach.
Truthfully, i lost my license for a little over a year so she sat in the yard (didnt have a garage for a while). Looking to bring her back to life and i want to start at the bottom and work my way up. Ive taken a few photos to hopefully get some input on repairs and future rust prevention tips/products (located in NY so its always salty in the winter). Thanks in advance!
Slightly off topic but whilst underneath taking pics of the towbar install for the towing thread I spied these two darker area's of paint on the chassis rails. The Drivers side has quite a noticeable area of rust. The pass side less so. It looks like the area has been a support point whilst on the assembly jig.

if you are at all worried just spray lanotec under your car before you go and give it a good fresh water wash underneath when you get home. the biggest killer would be submercing the car in salt water.
I installed a couplertec system for peace of mind, and then I stick a sprinkler under the car when I get home, drive it for a few days, spray out again, and then a 3rd time a few days after that. I've found the TC skid plate scoops up heaps of sand, clean around the rear bumper, wheel liners and side steps if you have them.
Does the couplertec do anything? No idea, but I feel better with it there.
Yes they are great. Ive had them on my last 4 cars. I used to have a JK with a couplertec. It lost a pad and i didn't notice. The only area that had rust was in the vicinity of the lost pad. That JK was purely a beach only car, and i very rarely rinsed it. It was on the JK for 10 odd years. 6mth after i took it off to put on a new car, the JK was full of rust. The cars since that we take on the beach are fitted with couplertec.
I guess im lucky i have ramps and a hot wash so i can get under my cars inside rails need a good flush. Also alot of carwashes these days have underbody jets.
The car washes you talk about also recycle water.... all that salt that has been washed out from under your car and everyone elses going straight back on again.... i know, i used to own a car wash.
