Sand Driving Training - Stockton

Some of you may have noticed in the sand failure thread that a sand driving training day was suggested.

I have made some enquiries with a company I did a training day with a few years ago at Stockton Beach - Getabout Training Services.

Getabout are willing to run a dedicated day just for us provided we can get 5 - 6 cars. They would organise for whatever day suits us with a discount of $50, this would make the cost $225 per vehicle. The $50 discount will pay for your fuel.

As I said, I did the day a few years ago with my son and it was a fun, family friendly and relaxed day, but you will learn some new skills and go up and down some big dunes. While I have done a fair bit of beach driving now, I'm still keen to go again.

SO....

What I need to get this organised is to confirm a FIRM day that will suit the majority of people. As a start I suggest the following days over the next couple of months (all Saturdays) :

29/6
20/7
27/7

Once I have an indication of numbers and preferred date, I'll go back to Getabout and confirm details. You will then need to book direct with them under a reference I'll give you later.

I guess they would take 8 or so in the group, but the smaller the group the better day you will have - so first in best dressed. If there is significant numbers showing interest maybe I'll have to draw a line in the um...sand.

Remember, I'm not getting anything out of this so no grief please.

Otherwise, I look forward to meeting you and having a fun day out.

I'll leave this up for a week or so - so who is interested?

Cheers,
GMWK2

I have now booked.
Great!

Post some vids of the action for those of us that are way to far away to join!
It is not so far from Canada - where is your sence of adventure?

A few more people booking would be great - where are all those MY14 owners wanting to show off their new cars?

PM me and I'll send you the details.

Here are a few photos from my last trip to get you motivated.

We have had another person confirm that they have booked so we have a nice little group now.

If anyone else is still interested, send me a PM and I'll return with the details.

Getting my sand fix on Monday.

So, are we all taking the front bumper covers off when we get there? I'm inclined to take mine off since the last time I was at Stockton I smashed the air inlet duct.

Couple of chains around them on the roofracks should do the trick

Has this occurred yet? Am I too late?
Nope - not too late. I'll send you a PM.

Therefore do I need the Sand issue fix applied first if applicable?
Hmmm - I'm note sure if your build date is affected. I suggest you check with your dealer based on your VIN. If you get the run around from your dealer go straight to Customer Service in Melb - the best contacts are in this thread few posts back.

OK I finally got around to calling and booking in for the training.
Great - see you there.

So how many have we got now?

A good group of half a dozen. This is a good size - not too many, not too few.

Anyone else is still welcome however. Send me a PM and I'll return with the details.

I had a quick run along Blacksmiths Beach today. Lots of DEEP soft sand but used the trick of keeping your boot into it and letting the GC electronics do their thing.

It has been a lovely sunny, warm day up here on the coast.

Wow, a long but really great day. I'm sure everyone who came along learnt some new skills and found out how capable the GC is. And a beaut group of people - thanks to you all.

I'm sure others will post photos, but here is one to start.

GMWK2 Thank you very much for organising today. It was good to see the Jeeps doing things that some can only dream doing. Only one of the GC's suffered the "sand issue", while all the others had no issues. Weather wise the day was perfect, and a really great group of forum members in attendance. I will post images once I get over drooling over them.
