Any thoughts on this guys would be helpful , just curious I never hear anyone getting this done on there Beastly machines on this forum or other SRT8 forums
Had Opticoat put on my previous Ford Territory and in my honest opinion it is nothing like they hype it up to be!
I would personally never put in on any of my cars again in the future.

See existing paint protection thread - Paint protection?.

Opticoat or any other paint sealant would have achieved nothing for me. It is supposed to help against minor swirls and scratches. It doesn’t stop anything with real force, and mine would still look the same if it had 50 coats of a sealant.

Pics would help, but if the undercoat is off, then respray may be best.

Sounds like a hack. If it can’t be done properly without respray, then the repairer if experienced should know and advise of this. This is why I didn’t bother with a paintless repairer, as I know my damage is too severe and needs slight panel reworking.

What genius advised that? Someone with an invested interest in you not getting a respray? If you take it to a good body shop, then they are going to strip the fender bare and respray correctly, it’s not like you just getting a spray can from a paint shop and passing it over.
With my quote they said that the front guards would also need a slight spray to help blend what has to be slightly different finish. I will get mine done soon. The earlier it is done the better the paint all matches up.

FYI, if you put your location (rough or accurate) in your profile details, then we can all see where you are and can give further advise.
See how mine says Sydney, Aus, allypally has NW Sydney, Mark doesn’t has anything as he trying to hide and not let anyone know he is in Perth.

Re: Scratch and Dents

Thanks Snuke

What I actually meant was, the chip removed the paint till the undercoat,

What the guy did was put some filler then painted over the material with some kind of acrylic paint he made up,

And I am in mackay

Re: Scratch and Dents

When you get a chance to take some better pics, also take one from further back to help provide positional relevance. If you just do a close up pic, it can’t provide context for severity.
If you look at my pics, you will notice the first one is over a metre back from the area so you can see the windscreen etc.. and help provide context and scale for the position and severity of the problem.
The key fob was used to help provide scale on the closer pics.

So one to provide contextual data, then a few closer in on a couple of angles to account for the effect that light has on pics.

Scratch and Dents

Judging by that image alone, you basically have 2 options. Remove that paint with some thinners gently and then get some colour matched paint, preferably from an automotive paint supplier and using a very fine artists brush apply 3 or 4 coats into the chip, allowing each to flash off for 10 minutes or so.
Paint isn't a good filler so it will still be there on close inspection, but not really noticeable from several feet away.
If that type of repair isn't acceptable then the only other alternative is into a panel shop to have it sanded out and the panel resprayed and blended.

Re: Scratch and Dents

Any mobile scratch and dent guy will fix that for about $300.
Ask your dealer who they use and call them up.
