Re: Sensational fuel economy Brisbane to Sydney in V6

Does any of you guys measure the usage or do you rely on the EVIC display?

I have the following data from a recent trip in country NSW and some from driving mostly in Sydney. I fill up the tank completely every time and write down litres and kms, then calculate l/100km and compare to the EVIC display which I then zero. It clearly shows that the display usually is a bit too optimistic. Also, the km driven shown on the display is slightly more than the actual km driven (new tyres and correct pressure) but I haven't measured by exactly how much.

Pure country driving incl. stops, overtaking etc.
km driven litre l/100km display % divergence

542 E10 76.5 14.11 12.5 -12.92
576 ULP 67.1 11.65 11.2 -4.01
124 ULP 15.0 12.10 13.0 +6.95
358 ULP 46.8 13.07 12.1 -8.04
510 ULP 61.8 12.12 11.2 -8.19
535 ULP 57.6 10.77 10.3 -4.53
673 ULP 75.5 11.22 10.9 -2.92

City driving
km driven litre l/100km display % divergence

291 E10 68.7 4.24 23.61 23.6 -0.03
113 E10 21.5 5.26 19.03 19.0 -0.14
543 E10 80.5 6.75 14.83 15.5 +4.35
253 E10 46.0 5.50 18.18 17.1 -6.33

Re: Sensational fuel economy Brisbane to Sydney in V6

Last week i drove Brisbane-Rockhampton-Mackay-Rockhampton_Emerald-Rockhampton-Bundaberg-Brisbane (around 2900Km). It was a huge week of driving, luckily i love Driving my Jeep.

Anyways in the V6 i averaged 9.8/100 according to the Evic and was getting around 900KM per tank.

Also had no problems with power overtaking etc, actually had a passenger who said he was surprised how quick the car was and wondered if it was a V8.

Jaysonf, that's pretty impressive. Of course I can't expect that sort of economy in Sydney driving/queuing. Maybe you could manually calculate between fill-ups a couple of times to see how close the EVIC is to actual usage? It seems to vary a lot in mine.

It's so cute the way Americans measure their engine output in horses, particularly if you like horses, as I do. However there is an inconsistency in their use of mpg. If you measure power output in horses, you should be measuring fuel consumption in furlongs per bushel.

Re: Sensational fuel economy Brisbane to Sydney in V6

Did a holiday trip from Sydney to Kangaroo Island, SA. Used 457.2 l of ULP 91 RON for a total of 11.18l/100km. EVIC showed 10.3 l/100km so actual consumption was 14.56% higher than the display readout. That's not really a surprise, other car manufacturers are similar inaccurate. Actually I'm pretty happy with the 11.18l/100km as I didn't drive particularly economically and the car was loaded with camping gear.

True. In my previous Audi & Merc, actual consumption has always been 0.5-1 L/100km more than the trip computer says.

BTW F500, do you have a V6 or V8?

It is a V6. And I'm happy with the power and performance. It might be an "old fashioned" non-turbo, non-diesel, but it is a great engine.

Re: Sensational fuel economy Brisbane to Sydney in V6

Well drove to Albury/Canberra return yesterday to get some km's up so I can tow this week. I averaged 8.7 for the 650km journey, amazing as it isnt at the expense of any power which is just sitting there to be used.

Re: Sensational fuel economy Brisbane to Sydney in V6

Did a 200km trip to Nelson Bay. 2 Adults, 3 kids, full boot and full 7x9 box trailer. CACC set on 121km/h. Average for the whole trip was 11.4l/100km. I was very happy with that as it seems these big bricks use a heap more fuel over 100km/h, not that I really care.

Forgot to mention that I was running BP Ultimate on the way down and on the way back. Despite what the manual says I reckon you get 5-10% better mileage on the high octane stuff.
