Re: Service schedule

How much can a software update in this transmission impact the gearing ratio?

Re: Service schedule

It cannot change the gear ratio, but it can unlock a gear. Late last year there was a TSB that converted the Hemi from a 5sp to a 6sp. This was done by making the tow/haul gear part of the regular range. Essentially the Hemi had 2x 2nd gears, now it just has 6 forward gears.
As for software, it can firm up the shifts and also cause the torque converter to lock quicker and also change the profiles of the way the gearbox shifts.
I am sure they did something at my 10k km service as the car was completely different in the way it drove.

Hey Enforcer, could you ask your service centre what they did?

Re: Service schedule

They will just look at me blankly...
I will ask when I go back for the rear towhook
A few others here have also notcied the difference. I can only expect it is just one of the many TSB's that have been installed.

I'd just like to see it kick down a little bit more readily than it does now. Not too much though. Just to make it a bit sharper.

I asked this of my Jeep dealer and he stated that Jeep don't offer and fixed price servicing (this I did already know, I was more enquiring about the costs of each service.)
They stated that the first 3 services range from $480 to around the $750 mark with the major service at 40K's around the $1300 mark!!

My question is;
what is done at the 40K service to justify this?
Surely no components would require replacing so soon.

What does the service book state?
Obviously I don't have one yet so can't check it.

Cheers,
Matt

Dont know what everyone is complaining about.

My last car was a Mitsubishi Outlander VRX. In 60000km I think I only had one service under $1k and that came in at $450. Every other service was around $1100 - $1500 AND the OEM tyres only lasted 38000km.

I'd be looking on tirerack.com if you're up for new tyres. Saved myself a packet when I replaced the outlander tyres.

Is that for the petrol engine Gribbs? I only ask because I had the dealer check for any flash updates for my CRD last week and they said that there were none.

Re: Service schedule

I also recently heard of a upgrade to the CRD fuel tune from a dealer. However, there is no viewable TSB for it. I therefore suspect it is a Australia thing, or a guinea pig situation.

I'm talking to Jeep right now on the aircon and brake booster. I'll ask the question as the techy is very helpful.
