Shift Lever Override - There is one!

After reading GMWK2's woes, I decided to pull apart the centre console to see if there is a shift lever override, so you can pull the transmission into Neutral with the engine off. And I found it!

The manual indicates that the access door is under the cup holder rubber. That may be true for LHD vehicles, but in the RHD's the shift lever is relocated next to the driver and the cup holders are on the wrong side for this operation.

If you look between the driver's seat and the centre console, you will see a sort of oval shaped access cover on the side of the centre console. Pop it off, and inside you will see a pink lever. Push the lever down and you can now shift the transmission lever. See the attached photo.

You should probably still put the transfer case into neutral if you have power and need to be towed. But if not, then this will unlock the transmission.

Also useful if the brake interlock fails and you cant shift into D, etc, if everything else works.

PS ... Misaligned trim panel in the photo is because I didnt press it down properly after reassembling. Fixed it now.

(EDIT: Mucking around with it further today while son was at swimming squad. This time it did start in Neutral. I'm not sure why not yesterday, but it worked today so I removed the "wont start in neutral" comment above.)

Re: Shift Lever Override - There is one!

You need to pass that one on to Jeep Assist for future reference. Nice one Mate.
