I did the comparison sums when I purchased my 3.6 Loredo just last month.
1. Currently in OZ diesel is 10c per ltr dearer than std leaded.
2. Service intervals are at 10k for Diesel not 15k for petrol,
3. Service costs for the diesel are more expensive.
4. And not forgetting the $5-$6k initial price differential
So when I added all this up I would need to keep the car for about 130,000klms before you get to breakeven with the fuel economy of the diesel. And I don't intend on keeping the vehicle that long!!
Yes I agree resale might be better and torque is also better but they are also subject to other conditions and situations.
So personally I'm happy with my decision to go for the 3.6.
I luv the 3.6 it tows my campertrailer as if it weren't even on the back and as for pick-up..... I've betten many a car from the lights..... if that's your thing!!
