Re: Should I go V6 or Diesel?

The diesel is more expensive to buy, the perceived advantage of lower running costs due to higher mileage is negated by the fact that diesel in Australia is 10-15% more expensive per litre than ULP.

The only advantage I can see in the diesel is if you are after touring range or wanting to use it off road.

Also if you are towing, the Diesel is rated to 3500kg vs 2300ish for the V6
Diesel engines usually last longer and perform better.
Diesel may be 10-15% more expensive at the moment, but remember, you also get much better milage out of it, you will get much more than 10-15% better fuel consumption.

Off the top of my head, it worked out that if you owned the car for 75,000ks or so then you will make the money back in fuel savings that you spent on the extra purchase price for the diesel.

Re: Should I go V6 or Diesel?

I just went through the same process. The petrol would have done everything I needed, but we ended up ordering a diesel (after only driving a petrol). Not really a financial decision for us, it's mainly the weekend trip car and will only do 10-15k per year.

I figured I'd get a lot of the $5k back at resale time (moreso than stepping up $10k to a Limited), and the extra range could be handy. Service costs are part of the novated lease so aren't a big factor - plus the more I spend on maintenance, the more they will take out pre-tax.

It's not a clear-cut decision either way for many, good luck!

No factory options at all, just the towbar and parking sensors as dealer-fit items.

Our top 3 colour choices were canyon brown, winter chill or white gold, and the dealer advised they were all build to order. I can only assume that was the delay...

You can occasionally get lucky with unallocated cars, or cars which have been cancelled by the buyer after build started. There are even some cars at dealers. However, if the specific build you require (colour/options) is not available, you will have to wait approx 6 mths.

Yep, towing would be another advantage of the diesel.

I have the V6 and on the freeway it actually gives me equal or better mileage than the NS Pajero Diesel I traded out. On the way back from Sydney I got close to 900k's before filling up again!

Re: Should I go V6 or Diesel?

Decisions.... Decisions.....
At least you will be below Lux Car Tax...... for a better car.
Ensure it has the options you require.
Where are you located? I saw a few such GC's at Penrith last week.

Re: Should I go V6 or Diesel?

Do you prefer luxury or power? If it is the latter wait. If it is the former go back with an offer of 52K and see where it lands .. they will forgo some profit on the petrol and make it up on the Diesel.

Having the Laredo for a month I have listed what i would like from the Ltd if I could add it to my Laredo now
Memory seats
Memory radio channel
Front park assist (for the bride)
IMO still not worth paying the $10K premium, but at a reduced price - tempting...especially when you add leather seats, 20in wheels, 730N and a few other goodies.
