DanS has a spectacular aura about
Spare tyre mounting options

I have three wishes for my 18in spare. First, the spare is a 260 vs 265/60, so why not make them all 265s? Second, the spare is stowed with valve pointed down so you can't check the pressure without pulling the spare out (and the spare has no tyre pressure monitoring transmitter) - need a better system. And the tyre jack takes a lot of muscle to lift the car - we need a better screw/thread ratio in the jack.

Re: Spare tyre mounting options

Since I called this thread "spare tyre mounting options" it makes sense to ask, are there other options for keeping the spare, including, can it be stowed right-side-up?

Check out Avenger 4x4 and then the Hitchgate tow tyre rack. I ordered one of them.

Re: Spare tyre mounting options

You can purchase a flexible braided hose which screws onto the tyre valve on the spare and allows you to have a "remote" valve. I have one on my Territory, where the spare is under the car. I ran the hose and attached it to the towbar, so I simply need to check the tyre pressure there, rather than lowering the tyre from it's cradle. Easy Peasy.
I also have a TPMS system on a computer in the car, and that monitors all 5 tyres. Gives Pressure and Temp in each tyre. It would be interesting to know whether the Jeep system can be configured for the spare tyre. If it could, all you would need to do is install a TPMS valve in the spare, and have the dealer program the dash to recognise it.

Re: Spare tyre mounting options

I think it was a big oversight not to have a TPS on the spare, it would not have cost much.
