it is a magnetic switch.
Cant see it until the trim is removed.

Took me an hour to work out why mine would not start.
With the spare out and lid removed.
And jeep assist (non assist)

I don't think our Laredo has a switch either - if it was really important I reckon you could use a small ball of blue tack on the tyre and close the lid, then check the squashed thickness for the clearance.
Its likely to be minimal so that the lid deflects onto the tyre under cargo weight - the lid itself is pretty lightweight and wouldn't span under load without some support.
