im hearing late Sept early Oct now, my other mate who was also waiting has given up and gone and ordered himself a HSV Clubsport Tourer...this is a joke. The information coming back from Jeep is poor, are they trying to create demand so they can charge a higher price?? not gonna work
It would not surprise me at all as they have a good product and will sell it for as much as the market will bear. Just look at what they did in the USA, charged 60k for a car everyone thought would be under 50!
I do not see anyone getting the 2013 model until mid to late sept. it will also make the initial 100 cars worth less as they will be the older spec. I would also expect the 2012/2013 models to also be worth much less than a 2014, due to the better gearbox and displays. I know that the newer models will always be better and worth more, but with such. Short model run of 2013, it will really kill the resale. I guess Jeep are hoping this info does not get out before they sell their allocation.
I would not hold my breath, as Jeep are not very good at sticking to a timeline.
You will most likely know when you will get your car, when the dealer says it has arrived on a truck at their dealership.
Ok, i just laid down a deposit as well for one of these with the agreed terms that the price will not exceed $90k and Aug delivery the latest, so I am going to be staying close to this thread...
So will Australia really get 1000 of these cars?
Exchange rate aside, an Overland in NZ is $95-$100k drive away. So call an SRT 15-20% more? Overland here is $70k+ orc - You can do the math if you want, but....
...Although neighbours, they have a totally different market there (flooded with imports as is an 'open market').
Encouraging news though, as the timing is often fairly similar between Oz & NZ for new model releases... So punt a pricing announcement very soon
It's not just Jeep guys. A mate of mine ordered a VW Passat 125TDI Highline Wagon in early January, to replace his Subaru Forester which was end of lease in May. The Passat is delayed until July sometime. So 6-7 months for a Passat!
He was quite peeved when I got the GC before he got his car, even though I ordered 2 months later.
For options - Consider it the same standard equipment as the Overland (for now). So everything you mentioned. Though not announced / confirmed, so don't take as gospel.
Is not air suspension, is adjustable-setting adaptive coils. Settings are Auto, Sport, Track etc instead of Sand, Rock etc.
I'm thinking of placing an order this week. Has the first batch been allocated already? When are they expected? (my trade-in will be my 2012 Overland so I will need to keep the car until I get the new one.
From what I have been told/read, there are only 2 options.
Pano Roof and rear DVD.
They will be available in August/September.
Personally I would wait for 8 months and order a MY2014, as it will have many nice features. I know I will be waiting, as I want the 8sp and the 7" dashboard screen, in addition to the 8.4" Head unit.
Interesting, I had a chat to my dealer, and he said he's happy to take orders now, but he will not be putting a price on it (not sure how that'll work). This will guarantee stock/allocation asap, but if the price is too high, then I will make a decision then.
EDIT: Chances are, by 2014, I will be keen for the new model,
Delaers cannot guarantee stock of the normal GC's, so they are just spinning you bullshit about the SRT8.
Without a price, you could be open to gouging and not be in a position to bargain. IF Jeep are really getting 1000 units, they will have a problem offloading all of them. I expect there will be several MY2012's going cheap later this year as people will find out the changes that the 2014 models will have. By the time the SRT8's are released the 2013 models will be out, so the 2012's will be the least wanted ones.
Keep the GC for another year and enjoy the significant changes the 2014 SRT8 will deliver.
As much as I'd be open to price gouging, I could tell them to gtfo as well. I am interested to see what they'll give me for my GC. By me placing an order and being able to get my deposit back, I kinda secure one, but can also cancel at any time.
I wouldn't be surprised if the 2014 ones get a price bump as well as being in such high demand, that you wouldn't be able to get one until early 2015 (in Aus).
I placed my order for my 2011 overland in may, got it in Jan. (as an MY12, 2012 compliance).
If I place an order for an srt8 now, it'll be a refundable deposit (due to unknown pricing) as well as the fact that I'd be able to sell my overland as a 2012 with saddle interior.
Will find out on Friday when I go talk cash with my dealer. I'll keep ya posted.
Looks like I made the right decision in pulling out of the waiting game. A March built vehicle be bought for $90k in Sept. Not my idea of good money management (Idea based on cars being a good investment to start with. )
