Stopped procrastinating and did it!

Well, after 96,000K and 3yrs 8 months of doing heaps with our JGC, we signed for an August build Billet Silver Laredo CRD with QL and tow pack yesterday. Its on the grass at Prixcars Brisbane so we'll get it in a week or so.

Couple of things prospective upgraders might find interesting….
Mudflaps are options now, not standard across the range.
From 15 August 2015 all AU Laredos get the factory camera with active gridlines installed on the line - no longer a dealer fit.

We were really unsure about the black headlining that seems to be all the go, but in the end decided to take a landed vehicle rather than special order a light interior Laredo and wait. We've been happy with Laredo spec so decided to stck with that level.
it'll be out with the trim sticks and tools from today, there's a few bits to be swapped over…….

John

Stopped procrastinating and did it!

How many GC owners are going to be repeat offenders and go a second time ?

Congrats on overcoming your procrastination.

Interesting info on the camera. Wonder if it is JA responding to all the criticism since the MY14? I'll believe JA have seen the light when they start being delivered MY16 with recovery points - I'll hold my breath....

Trading your old one or selling private?

The wife and I had a long sit down with the sales manager when he worked on the deal, and the conversation certainly included JA and its poor customer relations. We were told the new CEO is a new broom and determined to sort the buggers out.
Having everyone and his dog through head office hunting evidence has cleaned out all the cupboards and efforts are apparently being made to address customer focus. The camera is part of that apparently to take dealer influence out of the mix.
The massive sales growth has stretched all the infrastucture and parts of it haven't coped at all.
hopefully there will be continuing improvement.
Well see…..

And our old one was traded - someone will get a goodie.

Re: Stopped procrastinating and did it!

Hmmm, I'd probably buy another one, if there's nothing out there that suits better, I've got a little over 250,000km on it now, so maybe it might fall apart soon.... Who knows....Anyways, the thing is getting another one, well, it just wouldn't have the same level of anticipation of waiting on a totally new model.... then again its always cool getting a new car!

Re: Stopped procrastinating and did it!

Wow - 250k! Is that a record?

I got told the same thing about the new CEO when I had my car serviced a month or two ago - new broom etc.

I still think they have a way to go, particularly with service schedules and costs, warranty period and sorting their dealers out.

I'm sure I've said on here before that I'm well overdue to replace my current GC - my 1 year extension to my original lease is up in January so I should have ordered a new one by now. At this stage Im probably going to pay out the residual and keep mine until the details of the MY16 are released.

I've looked at plenty of other cars - disco (too expensive) new Prado (underpowered dinosaur) Everest (ridiculously overpriced). Disco sport (too small), Fortuna ( too ugly) - so it's hard to think of anything that comes close to going another round with JA .

Anyway - hope your new ride is awesome.

Re: Stopped procrastinating and did it!

8 hours and countless in and out the doors and up and down............I must have been a bit more flexible when I installed all this lot!

Recovery hook off - lower bumper remove and replace
UHF out - chase aerial lead out to the back and up into the roof rail, and somehow get under the passenger seat to the head unit, plus wiring
Brake controller out - remove console and front radio bezel to get it out of the cubby and chase wires to the tow bar plug, then put it all back together before the missus sees it
Battery isolator out - plus all the aux wiring and fuses down beside the battery
Anderson plug out - plus all the wiring to the back
Fridge supply out - plus wiring to the back.
All the trim off and back on again at low level, even remembered to reconnect the antenna hidden in the spare tyre surround this time.
20 kg at least of recovery gear and compressor and hoses and tools and spares and and and.
Bits of Simpson Desert, Gibb River Road, Cape York and stuff I was glad to find again.
I'm gonna have a couple of beers and a Scotch - I've got creaks and groans everywhere.

couple of weeks and it's all got to go back in!!!! Gotta be worth it.
John

Re: Stopped procrastinating and did it!

Only got 43klms on my MY11, so not in a rush to rollover. Will wait to see the new model in 2018 to see if I go with another Jeep.

Were they standard on MY11-MY13? I had to include them in our deal with my MY14.

MY16 (US) details are here - 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes
Most interesting will be the 75th Anniversary models.

It might actually be 2019 before it is released.

Re: Stopped procrastinating and did it!

Yep, thanks Snuke, I've been following the thread regarding the MY16 pretty closely but there is always a question mark over the specification of the Aus delivered vehicles.

I'll cool my heals till I can eyeball one. Once bitten.....

I think the black headlining is one of the best features of the car.
