Exactly what is in this tow package?

Oh, I'm in Australia.

Thanks
In Australia you have the tow package - tow bar and wiring loom - and no factory or dealer prewiring for a brake controller.
We already get self levelling suspension, heavy duty brakes, and an oil cooler on the Au export build.

John,
What about trailer sway control? I don't think it comes activated. After I put my tow bar on, I put the car in to update the software. I presumed that meant activating the trailer sway control or at least the service guy nodded his head in assurance that all was hunky-dory now.

As I recall in the AU specs in 2012 it mentioned TSC as standard (I was pretty keen on highlighting all the good stuff in yellow prior to purchase).
The 2015 specs I have list option code BNT as Trailer Sway Damping standard on the Laredo so I assume all models.

I don't know about having to activate it - the yaw sensors talk to the ABS anyway - so is the fancy name just a function of the ABS?

On our 2012 the TSC was activated on delivery…..one of our early tows in 2012 was the road from Cooma to Braidwood in pouring rain - single lane clay in parts in those days, and with the Jeep on one side of the crown of the road and the van on the other - the TSC light was flickering happily away.
No issues and no noticeable argument between the van and Jeep - the van eventually climbed the crown and we continued slip sliding away….

I'm not rushing to try out the 2015 although it will go down that road in February with the van on. I just assume the light will come on if it gets unhappy.

And I dunno about reading anything into your service guy nodding his head - there'll be plenty of members here that won't necessarily relate positively to that action!!
And all the best for Christmas and a happy and healthy 2016
John

Re: The Towing thread

Hi All,

I've finally upgraded the 2011 Overland CRD for a 2015 Overland CRD and I didn't swap out the bar, so I need a new one
I have gone through every page quickly and have not noticed anyone mention why the US spec bar is non-compliant for ADR's. Does anyone know the reason? Is it a similar reason as to why we could not have remote start? i.e. no reason
The US bar seems to be integrated much better than the chop shop job I received with the best bar. I'm keen to understand what red tape I need to unravel before ordering and installing (US spec) one.

Cheers

Floosy.

The issue is that they have not been assessed against ADR or tested IAW the ADR. Exactly what the assessment entails I am not sure but the testing apparently (as described by a previous work colleague) subjects the car and bar to many thousands of load cycles and there are strict pass fail criteria to be met. The following hyperlink provides some info for testing personnel and assessors. http://rvcs.dotars.gov.au/TFI%20Manu...062-00-9-1.pdf,

Happy reading.

Regards

Adrian

Re: The Towing thread

And there's the issue.....fitting a non ADR compliant component such as a tow bar and down the track something goes pear shaped.
Personally my risk management threshold would not allow the opportunity for an insurance company or authorities to apportion blame resulting from any incident.
For me it's risk versus reward - and no way does the reward component come out on top in this instance.
Two other points
- both Best Bar installs on our JGCs have been excellent.
- and remote start is now available.....you have to be careful with forum information........
All the best with your decision making.
John

John

Are you saying remote start is now available on the Australian GC's as a genuine option?
Or are you talking about after market remote start like flash logic
Or remote start available on other makes (commodore)
Cheers Yoda

Re: The Towing thread

I thought I had posted this, but can't find it, so here it is again:
I'm about to order a Stonestomper guard to protect my camper trailer and the rear of the Jeep.

I'd like to know if anyone has one on their JGC, and if so, what width is it at the car?

They come in 1850mm and 1950mm. 1950mm is 50mm wider than the distance between the outsides of the mudflaps, and at the height the Stonestomper bar is mounted (under the tow pin at the hitch) it would protrude 100mm or so from the sides of the body. But the 1850mm is slightly (about 15mm) narrower than the distance between the outsides of the tyres, potentially letting rocks past, I guess.
I'm leaning towards the narrow ones, to save shins, and also, the wide one may actually be illegal.
Thanks,
Russell

Re: The Towing thread

Russell,
i've seen a few fitted to WK2s round the traps, and can't recall seeing any that stuck out the side of the vehicle.
I reckon easier to make the sides a fraction wider if you really wanted to cover all the tyre width. Not easy to cut the thing back, and I reckon you are right about the shins - nothing worse than bark off there!
In my experience of many, many dirt roads towing the van it is amazing where stones of 15mm odd size will end up - they seem to ricochet at all angles - and i guess hence the stone stomper!!
Despite an extensive stone guard on our van drawbar the front wall has been pretty well peppered to the full height - put down to giving it character now.
Its going to Ballarat in February and Darwin in June so we'll add a few more…..
John
