Re: The Towing thread

P3 and 50 amp anderson plug fitted today. both with self resetting circuit breaker. 8mm cable for the anderson plug. $450 (parts & labour) + $169 (P3) = $619 all together.

I pick up the camper trailer tomorrow!

Cheers,

Sparky.

Yes, I realize that is high, The unit I have is about 850lb / 385KG at the tongue. It handles beautifully with Air Suspension and a WD/Sway Control System. I have tried moving the trailer without the Control Bars on and that is an accident waiting to happen. Just not sure why a Camping store would say such things. I know Jeep here in North America REQUIRES them over 500 Pounds 227KG and you guys have higher weight ratings than us.

I just think that article is totally misleading and very dangerous.... What is your tongue load limit down there?

Picture of my Rig below with a dealer test rig I ran testing on.

That would still be a lot without WD! Do you agree Allypally, that it does not make sense to try and do that without WD? Also I try to keep up on the OZ specs and I have NEVER seen where Jeep has said anything about not using them with WD. In Fact they have specifically configured the suspension to not level until moving as a safety feature related to WD.

Sorry to be ignorant here.... but is whether you need a wdh more applicable to the tongue weight than the overall weight of what is being towed.

I know they made adjustments to the trailer I towed with my old car to get it to 150 kg.... for approximately 2 tonne boat fully loaded.... but is that too light on the tongue for the jgc... any thoughts would be welcome

Tongue weight in North America is recommended 10-12 percent of load. In Europe they recommend 8 percent. I know below 8 percent you can get some unusually stability issues.... I would like to see the thinking on this for OZ as well.

WAY better suspension system than in our travel trailers!!! Generally we don't even get shocks.

Some of that says what I was thinking and that some of the trailer stores don't care about your safety...

I see your setup was "rear tilt" so maybe took some weight off but cross winds can be a bugger when you do that.

Willx, there's no rule on % download in Oz.it's a generally accepted rule of thumb to use about 10% of the trailer mass.
The towing limit is set by either the manufacturer or the towbar maker.

I have WDH from my previous caravan, and will see whether I need them whe. i get my GC in a few weeks. My camper has about 170kg when loaded.
