I'd be interested to know, those in Au with GC+P3, does manual override disengage cruise?
I have an Australian export MY12 WK2 with a Tekonsha P3 bought locally. When applied, the manual override lever functions as follows:
  • It does not disable cruise control (tested without trailer connected)
  • With trailer connected and brake pedal not pressed, all brake lights on the car and trailer come on
  • With trailer disconnected and brake pedal not pressed, all brake lights on the car come on.
I should also test what happens when both brake pedal and the override lever are applied but the missus has gone to the gym.

Yes it is curious how the CAN senses that the override lever has been applied. I think you have the answer. The P3 must feed back 12V through the signal wire when the override is applied. Simple actually.

I suspect xdra10's problem is that the signal wire is connected to the back of just one of the brake lights. This is how some of the after market "quick fit" trailer harnesses work.

That is how it should all work.

On my 2014 jeep the brake control signal wire is connected to the 7 pin trailer plug which I believe to be correct.

The problem is that the tow bar loom is spliced in to the LHS tail light wiring and the RHS just for the RH indicator and Jeep Australia and the dealer has not taken in ta account that the 2014 jeep runs a CAN system for the rear lights.

Can any one tell me if the 2012 and the 2013 Run a CAN system for the rear lights?

I have got it booked in to the dealer on Wednesday so I will see what they do.

I am starting to understand the problem here. They used to use the 12 volt at the lights for trigger etc. That of course is much more complicated when they are all LED with a control interface.

I agree, this is where I believe the problem is. I support that dealers should splice, in order to get their customers up and running. If done correctly and soldered, it would be just as reliable as waiting for the official cable. It is crazy to have people buy a $70k car and not be able to tow with it because of delays in shipping something so simple on a boat. My Magna was wired this way as it was the only option.

What I can't understand is, why splice into the lights themselves and NOT into the dedicated connector, i.e. the place where the proper cable is supposed to connect. Unless of course the official cable being talked about is not just a cable but includes a small CAN ECU that just connects to the BUS.

Re: The Towing thread

Xdra10, Just tried my manual override as promised, same problem as you. On manual override only the left hand brake light on jeep operates, all caravan lights operate. Using brake pedal all jeep and caravan lights operate as normal.
What to do next?

Thanks for trying that out for me.
The dealer must have used the 2013 modified wiring loom in your jeep as they did in mine.
Mine will be at the dealers on Wednesday so I will let you know what they do.

Cheers Brad.

Please let me know how you get on with your dealer regarding the wiring loom. If it is the wrong setup being used I will contact my dealer next week to have it rectified.

Cheers Graeme

I do know that only the North American Builds come with the Connector you speak of under the dash for this purpose. It does not function with the lights as yours clearly do though, it works like I have described.

Here are the instructions from my P2.
4 wires are exiting the unit.
I can scan this tomorrow if it needs to be clearer.

posting from app so may screw or double up images.

Thanks Snuke!,

Looks like they are the same units, the Aussie dealers must wire it some special way to get it to trigger the stop lights. Also from last night, we came to the realization of course the entire electrical system in the Jeep for 2014 is different, so whatever method they used to do may not work with LED tail lights.

I have the wires as they were removed from my Ford Falcon. I can take a pic, however there is another wire in there that I am not sure if it was associated with the P2 or the other controller I have, as it was all just lumped in one bag.
