Pointing it backwards, facing the water, appears to be the challenge for some.

Re: The Towing thread

I'm trying to find an answer to this question.

If trailer sway control [ Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 - 2011 Grand Cherokee Trailer Sway Damping ] is activated do the brake lights come on?

I have tried Chrysler customer care who refer me back to the dealers, who don't know, I have tried other forums but know positive answer.

You can understand the question because if the brake lights come on then so will the caravan brakes. All adding to the safety of the rig pulling things straight much quicker.

Re: The Towing thread

Thanks allypall
I have read that it's a great system hope I never have to use it.
But it dose not confirm whether the brake lights come.
It would be good if they did so the caravan is being braked as well.
AL-KO have a new ESC system for the caravan at $1300 all good to have but if the caravan brakes work via the Jeeps TSC then we don't need Alko's system.
So the question remains do the brake lights come on ?

Ps seen your new van on the caravans forum great van looks great have you had a shake down trip yet.

Some discussion whilst waiting for the answer...

Unless omitted by oversight, the system should have been designed to activate the brake lights. It's a mandatory requirement for all braking systems to do so. Note that other systems which develop braking forces in the Jeep activate the lights, so it's extremely likely the sway control does too.

Cheers,
Steve

That's regarding a brake controller though, not one of the vehicle's own systems.

2 questions are implied in your post. I'd like to comment on one, brake lights activated by Jeeps TSC. I'm very confident this doesn't happen because Jeeps traction control also uses braking without activating lights. On 2nd point caravan brakes cannot be activated by the vehicle other than via the brake controller fitted externally to all Jeep systems, other than power sourced to the controller when brake pedal is depressed. Brake lights are meant to indicate braking by the driver, nothing more is envisaged by ADR'S and vehicle design regs I believe. Just my thoughts.

The collision avoidance system activates the brake lights Max. I'd put that much closer to the mark than traction control, as this is designed to move the vehicle in the direction of travel intended.

If the WK2Jeeps document is word correct, the system is attempting to slow the vehicle... not just tidy up the sway.

But as I said it's discussion. A confirmed answer would probably only come from M if anyone.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: The Towing thread

I think it would be best if a couple of you hooked up a trailer and went and tested it to get a definitive answer.
