Already tried that, thats alright its either keep the hitch or get bigger tyres for the van or get another drop hitch.

How big is the van? Do you need a wdh?

Re: The Towing thread

Just bite the bullet and buy a different height gooseneck part of the hitch, not much brass compared to your other ideas. It's the only way to get the van and vehicle each level led without mucking up some other aspect IMHO. Tow a 20ft offroad van with a 2014 CRD.

Re: The Towing thread

I'm about to take delivery of a 23'6" Kingdom balmoral van, with ATM around 3200kg. The van is pre wired for a reversing camera, so now I need to choose a camera and monitor. I really don't want to stick a monitor on the dash, or hang one from the mirror, so am wondering if the u-connect system has provision for a second camera input. Does anybody have any experience with this?

My second question is how do I work out how much tension to put on the HR hitch leveling bars? I think the 2014 JGC Overland will level itself out as soon as the weight comes on.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Barry

Have a look at MYGIG LOCKPICK for your screen solution.
In regard to the WDH, I suggest you visit UTUBE where there are dozens of tutorials on setting the levelling bars.

Barry I've had a good look at this and there are three options:

Lockpick CHR558v2 by Coastal Electronics. This is an module inserted between the Uconnect display and one of its main multipin plugs. It then allows additional video inputs plus operation of the motion locked features of Uconnect such as destination entry. You can force a camera on at any time. It is easy to install, however Coastal will not ship here nor support you with warranty. I don't know of anyone using a CHR558 on an Aussie MY14 yet... I was tempted to, but caved in. Price is US$390, plus creative freight.
http://www.coastaletech.com/CHR558.htm

NavTV make similar devices, and email I've exchanged with them recently indicates that they are finally ready to ship for MY14 Grands. Support should be better, but it's not local. Price is US$600 plus freight. Ouch.
http://navtv.com/product/279/uct-13-.html

Breaking into the video feed from the rear camera and installing a video switch is the alternative. You could then switch between cameras manually (from in the boot), or remote control the video switch to make the selection from the driver's seat. Any competent auto electronics installer should be able to make this happen.

Cheers,
Steve

Edit: Apologies, wrong model Lockpick stated. Now correct.

Agreed! It's right way and the best way. Don't stuff the car for the sake of the van.

First tow, Berwick to Baccus Marsh 11.4 per 100, engine oil around 109, trans 90ish. Baccus Marsh to learmonth 12.3 per 100, engine oil hit 120, trans mid to high 90. Coolant sat on under half except for the second leg which was a constant climb. I will log data on the way home and post. Van is 2500 loaded. Very happy.

Re: The Towing thread

I picked up a tow bar kit for MY12 from northern motor group in vic for $474.30 much cheaper what dealers ask in Sydney.
