Re: Towbars in Australia

Has anyone used one of these eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d ? Sounds like a great idea and should be easy to wire up for a Jeep.

I asked for a flat plug with my HR bar. They gave me a choice of the flat one or the round one.

EDIT: just read the description. Not sure if mine deactivates the parking sensors, but there's a button for that anyway.

I can recommend the supplier as I have got a bit of stuff from them with no issues, but how this plug will interface with the Canbus or sensors I dunno.

Re: Towbars in Australia

Guys,
The answer might by buried in this thread, but as Bob points out, the genuine MOPAR bar is manufactured by Best Bars NZ. My question is what is the likelyhood of being able to purchase the genuine 3.5T hitch reciever only? You might recall the ding I got on the back end. The structure of the towbar is fine, its just the hitch thats damaged. I can buy a heavy duty aftermarket one for $120 but would prefer the genuine MOPAR. What do you reckon my chances are? The repairer has drawn a blank through Jeep who will only supply the whole kit at $800. Any answer as always is much appreciated.

Re: Towbars in Australia

I would contact Jeep spare parts yourself, I would class this as a servicable item so surely it is available by itself (then again we are talking about jeep Aus )

Good luck

Re: Towbars in Australia

I take it you mean the removable bit that has the towball on it. To be honest I'd just buy a good aftermarket one like Hayman Reese or Ark.

Alternatively, just contact Best Bars in NZ and buy directly from them as it is likely to just be a generic piece from their Titan range.

Re: Towbars in Australia

Hey guys/gals. Just some info, I called the dealership that I bought my '12 Limited CRD from and got quoted $900 fitted for the genuine bar. Might go down that path too I think...

I Fitted mine myself

Hi all,

I bought my 11' JGC without a towbar and started looking into the options as $850 fitted + luxry car tax meant it would be $1100-1200 fitted..

I was about to buy one from the states with wiring until i found Northern motor group had them on eBay for $650 with wiring.. + fitting..

It came with instructions to fit it and the hardest thing (or heartbreaking thing?) was to cut the hole in the rear bar for the tow bar to pop out on.

Took me approximately 2 hours.. But worth it! and its genuine

Lucky you didn't order from the States. As I understand it the US Mopar towbars are not ADR compliant. That's why they get the Aussie Mopar bars specially made by Best Bars in NZ.
