Re: Towbars in Australia

I leave mine on, I've had occasions where I have been hit in the rear and it has saved the vehicle.

+1 for me too.

Towbar has saved my other vehicle from damage also when rear ended.

Re: Towbars in Australia

Well just had a Hayman Reece fitted by Towbar city here in Perth for $650 all up, asked if needed it reflashing by dealer and he stated "no, thats one of the easier ones"!

So far all good the camera has also picked up the tow ball and gives a "line" in the reverse camera - awesome!

Well there goes my research - 2 HR dealers here really didn't want to do the job due to "past issues" with can bus vehicles (including Chrysler ones)....
Just goes to show you need to find the right supplier!!
I was also wary due to reported intermittent problems with starting and batteries, that were assigned to canbus conflict related to wiring.
Hope it continues to work well.
Well done.

Re: Towbars in Australia

I can tell you the little black line on the screen makes a huge difference, but I am sure I saw it on the screen of the non towbar JGC test drove.
I managed to back up to my mates boat, hit the OR2 setting on the suspension and I hit the ball spot on. Only needed to release the handle and remove the jocky wheel.
My mate was dumbstruck how quick it all happened. The suspension raising took most of the time, but the jocky wheel was setup for his lifted patrol, that is why I needed to raise it up to hookup.

Re: Towbars in Australia

The ADR compliant MOPAR tow bars are made in NZ.
The US ones are not ADR compliant for Australia they are too high.
And some other details.
The wiring harness is pre-run under the rear passenger inside quarter panel.

Re: Towbars in Australia

Anyone know how to access the prerun wiring harness? I was watching this vid but I am not able to find the tow harness. My GC came with Trailer Tow Prep Group option.

I had a good look at the back of mine and also couldn't find anything remotely like trailer wiring despite also supposedly having the Trailer Tow Group. All that was there was a conduit containing a couple of relatively thin wires connecting the rear fog lights. There are US youtube videos of trailer wiring but their setup seems quite different to ours. Does anyone even know WTF Trailer Tow Group actually is and don't say it's wiring because there isn't any?

Do you have an image of the finished OEM fitted product? I seem to recall a Jeep shroud or something that really completes the look where the hitch sticks out.

Bank in June Leo Muller Albion had a special, $750.00 to supply & fit. When I booked in they ran out of stock. True to their word, they called me last week to advise stock was now in and they'd honour the special price.

Getting it fitted next week but just want to make sure:
  1. It's MOPAR
  2. It has the shroud (or similar at least from memory from seeing images of them last year)
Cheers

Steve at www.shop1auto.com.au says the breakout point is in the boot behind the passenger taillight. I had a go at finding it but there are so many panels to be removed to get at it that I gave up after removing the cargo area panels. Next the D-pillar panels had to be removed and lastly the quarter panel. I'll give it a go when I have more time. I'm curious. You can download the panel removal PDF here http://www.wk2jeeps.com/wk2_interior_trim.htm .

Re: Towbars in Australia

The dealer in Alice has quoted me around $1400 for parts and 4 hours labour.
Is it just me or is that a little high? Unfortunately it's the only dealer nearby (i use the word 'nearby' loosely; it's 500km south of where I live). The next closest is 1000km north.

I would consider that high. Can't you get it done by the Sydney dealer at delivery time?
