Is it just me or is that a little high? Unfortunately it's the only dealer nearby (i use the word 'nearby' loosely; it's 500km south of where I live). The next closest is 1000km north.
That is very high. If you are willing to get a Haman Reese bar, this is what they emailed me, "The correct towbar for your 2012 Grand Cherokee is part number 02770RW, this towbar is rated up to a maximum of 3500kgs with 350kgs on the ball and has a RRP of $743 plus wiring and installation. This part can be ordered through any of our stockists, a list of which can be found on our website www.haymanreese.com.au ." The Mopar bar, parts only, you can get for $647.40 online from https://www.mopar.com.au/Pages/Store...ils.aspx?D=139 . But then the Alice is the Alice.

Re: Towbars in Australia

$1100 was the going "Jeep" rate last year and that was high then, $1400 is a new level of fleecing but I guess you would get used to that in remote places.

$750.00 supplied and fitted I think is great value. I agree with ally, book it in with your dealer now or better still, before it arrives check to see if any dealers are running any specials (like Leo Muller are now or did).

I will certainly be making some more enquiries though. Hayman Reese may be an option.

If you guys don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for parts, and how many hours labour did they sting you for?

Re: Towbars in Australia

Mine was free, so I can't quote.
If leasing, then the LCT is certainly an issue.
However, you can always do a "seperate" deal, after the car has been settled.

Re: Towbars in Australia

Spoke to Topgear 4WD Centre in Alice and got a quote for $944.05 for the HR bar installed. Seems a little more reasonable, and they've ordered the parts so they'll have them ready to go when my car arrives. They quoted 1.5hrs for install but said it will probably take a little longer, but I'll only be charged for 1.5hrs either way.

He also said that there's no issue with the CAN bus with the HR bars. Something about an ECU which interfaces with the CAN bus. I dunno, he sounded like he knew his stuff, unlike the dealers.

Still not sure how Jeep justifies their extra $500 considering their parts are cheaper...

Re: Towbars in Australia

If you were ordering it with the new car there would be Luxury Tax on top of the price of the towbar, which is about 30%. $1100 + LCT = $1430

Which is why I was getting a quote from the dealer in Alice and not the dealer in Sydney. I would understand the higher price from Suttons because it would be a pre-delivery accessory and thus subject to LCT, but there's no LCT on things added after delivery so why Centralian Motors' price was so high is beyond me.

Anyway, customer service at Topgear 4WD Centre was excellent and their price was much better so they can have my money.

Re: Towbars in Australia

http://www.parksidetowbars.com.au/ fitted mine at my home for $640 odd dollars. Works perfectly no faults no reflash no rip off. Rang stealer who wanted around $1100 so obviously they do them by the dozen given the vague answer. This is not restricted to jeep, I am told the above supplies to a number of local brands who then double the price. I think it falls into the same category as window tint when big tits offers her best price which is usually double what the supplier would offer directly. Same with oil same actually with anything. Subaru were identical. Suzuki also. Servicing is bullshit too. My last car subaru outback diesel, $320.00 every 6 months. Oil was expensive ok, filter lets say also. The rest is just stealer wages. I feel the day is not far off where manufacturers sell direct, the internet is the catalyst, dealers have been printing money far too long.

Mine an amazing 2012 3.6 loredo.

Sounds good! Is it a Hayman Reese or their own brand? Trouble is, it's a long drive to WA.
