Re: Towbars in Australia

Nice neat fit - I'm sure you'll get the socket somewhere that works for you.

It's certainly neat! The white spot in mine has the Best Bars logo. I notice yours is different. The Best Bars logo makes it look like a bit of aftermarket gear, which in fact it is but it is also a genuine part. A Jeep logo would look better from a resale point of view. There are Jeep caps available in the States but I don't know if they would fit into the Best Bars plastic cap surrounds. Next time I buy something from the States I'll get them to throw in a cap just to see.

Re: Towbars in Australia

I had my new towbar fitted on Friday.
In the end I decided on the Hayman Reese bar as I already have a HR WDH and it removes the issue of having to grind the corners off to fit into the Mopar bar.

All in all a very neat fit.

Re: Towbars in Australia

Unfortunately, the heaviest thing I'll get to tow soon will be my Yamaha jetski, taking it away next weekend. Melb Cup long weekend I'll be taking our van to Bright, looking forward to fuel consumption figures of 10lt/100 less than my previous tow vehicle.

Very happy with the car, my dealer said he was expecting the call when I finally cancelled the order, no issues. They are my closest so I'll give them a go come service time, hopefully they'll look after me.

There is a good shot of the hayman Reese towbar in this gallery. Some pics of it being installed too.

Re: Towbars in Australia

Matty did you get the rear tow hook reinstalled with the HR bar or does it get left off??
You'll be more than happy with the towing - ours with 2150kg van on the back has averaged 12.8l/100 over 13,000k connected up.
Bright and the Ovens valley will be brilliant that time of year.....

The Redarc remote controller is the one that has sucessfully been fitted to a number of new Jeeps.
See here: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/REDARC-RE...ht_1562wt_1219
This supplier also has another brand similar in nature as well as other controllers. (i purchased my P3 here).
The main difference is in the operation - where the Redarc voltage output (braking force) is determined by the knob setting versus the proportional controllers using a pendulum to vary output according to the actual tow vehicle braking (Tekonsha P2, P3, and HR Guardian).
Price is similar and probably comes down to a compromise on hiding the controller and what sort of braking you will be happy with. Dasher's installation is very neat, whereas my P3 has taken up the whole cubby (but I wanted the full deal proportional braking and diagnostics)......
