Towing Temps

Hi all , just wondering if I can get an idea of what temps (engine oil and transmission) you guys are seeing whilst towing .
I towed my boat to port dennison (about 500KM ) on a reasonably warm day ,38 degrees . Being the first decent trip with the boat in tow I was keeping an eye on the temps . I was a little surprised to see 108 C engine oil and 101 C trans oil . I noticed that they were only just over the half on the gauge so I wasnt too bothered but I am curious what other people are getting towing .
Thanks
JOEL

Re: Towing Temps

It appears that the MY14 trans seems to run hotter than the MY11, 12 & 13. My MY12 trans usually sits around 78deg on a normal day whether I'm towing or not and will climb into the 80's if I have to push it up a hill.

This photo was taken with my 2T boat on the back. As you can see, pretty extreme conditions but didn't get any higher than this.

Unfortunately I can't monitor engine oil in mine.

in 40+ heat across the Hay Plain at 120kph I was getting 106 oil and 101 transmission so yours seems similar. I've heard oil temps can go to 130 (notional, not specifically Jeep).

Re: Towing Temps

My temps, with close to 3.5T on the back are similar to Matty's.

Hi guys. Same temps in my MY14 CRD towing my 2.8t off road van. I'm interested that around the EVIC digital temps is a white half circle Low to High indicator. At these temps the highest indication is just past half way ie no way near what the Jeep thinks is high. Any one else see this? Anyone getting higher readings than say 60% around the half circle? These seem to give some context to the digital readout rather than the speculative guess that 102C is high. Anyone have any definitive info on this

Silverhammer , Im with you . I wasnt conserned due to where the temps sat in relation to the gauge but I still feel better to hear other MY14 owners are seeing similar temps .

Towing 2.5t with my Crewman Cross 8 in 37deg at 100KM - Trans 98 and Coolant 98.

If I hit a hill then Trans 105 and Coolant 105 and would then settle again.

I log all my trips using Torque and having the Trans at around 90 - 110(bursts) is fine and coolant sitting around 100 is fine also.

Havent towed with the JGC yet.
