Re: West Aussie 2014 Overland CRD Owner

Nice right up.

The High Beam problem is easily solvable by switching from Auto Light to just manually on, the HB will be on at call.

Audio is beyond help ultimately, but my settings tips are first and foremost turn Surround Sound OFF, it murders an already dead system.
After that these are my settings, they just make it slightly less shit, an improvement over the complete shit that it is at default.

The seats are flatter and woder than I remember, and in a post by a US JG member, they made the suggestion that the Overland seats are actually a different shape to the Limited and Laredos.
I will have to jump in another Limited without the Lux II upgrade to test this.

Do you have the 19spk audio SNUKE or the base 9/10 speaker version?

Thatís what I meant about going to U-Connect. The point being it is impractical to have enabled... it's a toy for show and tell. Or dare I say it, the city.

On our Beamer you pull the stalk for high rather than push it, but the methodology could be applied. If AHB is enabled, the first time activates auto high beam... the second time gives them to you manually. It's these things that make it obvious someone from R&D sat in the car and gave five seconds dedicated thought to the feature specifically.

Cheers,
Steve

Alpine 9 Speaker. HK system is only available on SRT & Summit.
I have read plenty of SRT owners saying the HK system is also very disappointing.

No, I mean you can leave auto high beams on in Uconnect, and have lights on Auto; but when you must have high beams on and auto won't do it, simply turn the light dial all the way to the right to manual on mode and the high beams will come straight on.

This dial from Auto (very Left) to On (very Right), not the uconnect setting.

Yeah I read those too, some people are never satisfied. It is afterall a steel box with seats in the way of acoustics. I'm happy with mine, much much better than the so called "premium" audio on my FPV.

Re: West Aussie 2014 Overland CRD Owner

Well root-me-boot. Thanks SNUKE... I thought that wasn't related to the high beam function, just low beam. I should have poked around a bit in the manual before bagging it out.

You're always equipped with a picture hey???

Cheers,
Steve

Re: West Aussie 2014 Overland CRD Owner

Speaking of pictures, I'm slowly collating some imagery related to my recent first trip in the Grand. One of most commented on things along the way was my latest incarnation of offroad navigation. Previously I've had the luxury of desktop PC performance, a dash mounted 10.4" touch screen and a steering column mounted touchpad mouse. It was unbeatable running OziExplorer, but I just don't have the room in the Jeep to repeat that kind of installation, and to be honest, current technology doesn't really mandate it provided you're OK with giving up a few features.

Aside from the Jeep not actually charging the tablet despite the little bugger saying so, all went extremely well with the latest setup. Brightness was better than I had previously, and the angle of installation meant I didn't have to wear a dark shirt.

I was very happy with my 30 minute tablet mount. It didn't shake unless hammering the bump stops, and made no noise aside from in similar conditions. Revision 2 will be a bit sexier regarding the backplate holding the tablet... I was short on time and just grabbed some carpeted 1.6mm aluminium I had hanging around. Had to laugh at myself using the "edge trim of amatuers"... split tube.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: West Aussie 2014 Overland CRD Owner

I've had a few goes at getting a decent photo or two of the stone-strike damage I inflicted on our Jeep. The plastic underlying the majority of the affested area is dark grey, so it doesn't stand out too much against the granite. Take heed of the warning if you have a pale colour paint... especially with the colour coded wheelarch detailing.

I'd reckon side steps would prevent most if not all of the carnage.

As I said... it's not so stand out, but certainly looks worse first hand.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: West Aussie 2014 Overland CRD Owner

Initially I had my fridge mounted on top of the folded 1/3rd side of the back seat. You can get a solid mounting to the seat's tubular frame to restrain the back end. The front side is a bit more difficult. I realised I could change out the driver's seat rear mounting bolts for eye bolts and that got everything locked down nice. I just didn't like the position though. It was high and the lid wouldn't open enough to remove the basket for the times we were staying over a few nights in one place. It was really in the rear passenger's face. I also worried what the compression might do to the leather upholstery... unfortunately removing the seat would require another complex base to be manufactured, like the one in my Prado.

I was taking the fridge out to bring home my 20" wheels and tyres after getting the 18"s mounted up, and moving it through the boot I realised I had to try to mount it there. It was just better in every way... oh, except for opening the dirty back door to get a drink. Unfortunately, the Cheep's tie downs are a hilarious gag that will possibly cost a life one day, and there are really no fixings to make use of under the false floor. Except the big one.

I used two straps... not my preference... run under the spare. One forward of the mounting bolt and one rearward. I had cranked the bolt down hard so the straps couldn't pass the sidewall to floor contact point, so there was enough triangulation to locate the fridge without slipping around... especially given it was on the rubber!

Over 3000km... no movement. The only niggle was when the luggage was out, a little rattle appeared from the contact of the ratchet on the fridge.

I'll probably re-jig this arragement using turnbuckles running down to a plate sandwiched between the spare and the floor. I might cave in and drill some attachment points too... the Bush Boy is a solidly built lad.

Cheers,
Steve

Nice tablet mount, looks good there.
You could try some clear film for the lower guards.
I bought some clear film off eBay to try to protect the headlights, but its difficult to apply neatly without bubbles & creases on the curved surface.

I was trying to apply some of the same the night before we left... and gave up. I'd probably used just a bit too much detergent to assist with massaging out the air bubbles, plus was being optimistic by trying to do the entire sill area with one sheet.

I didn't have the best help either...

Ciao,
Steve
