Ah crap... you got me. Pr!ck

ENGINEERING MENU. To access on Aussie models hold down the passenger's side hot and cold (red and blue that is) buttons until it appears.

Top Level Menu

Top Level Menu - Scrolled Down

Second Level - Version Information

There is a huge swag of other submenus to have a look in, though nothing caught my eye just yet... maybe except for being able to check the temperature of the audio amplifier. No seriously, "logging to USB" could be really interesting if the resultant log is readable.

Get fiddling and let's see if there's any version differences about.

Cheers,
Steve

Without guys "in the know" with Chrysler / Jeep / Dodge / Fiat / Australia we're going to be at the mercy of the Dealers. As demonstrated regularly here, Dealers vary by huge margins. I'd like to think that anyone who is getting new firmware loaded tries their absolute hardest to get a copy put on a USB stick for their online Brothers, because the installation process is definitely DIY (based on what I read of the US happenings). I'm extremely tempted to load one of the US files as I can't imagine it would brick the system so bad it's unrecoverable, though there's definitely hardware "missing" in our U-Connect units. The only problem is I don't think there's any copies of any Aussie firmware out in the wild. So you can't go back unless you visit the dealership with your tail between your legs.

What we need Justin, are the files... then the brave could play.

Re: West Aussie 2014 Overland CRD Owner

If you are interested in looking into this please let me know....

I can provide access to the 13.15.4 and the 13.19.0. The software is capable of identifying various vehicle option differences on it's own. I am unclear as to what exactly is missing from the 13.19.0 NAFTA release so frankly it may make something like FM radio not work because of the Hybrid XM antenna system???? but that is totally a guess.

I also want to point out I have never attempted to role back a version either?

I'm definitely up for getting involved with this Will, however I guess I should check my Dealer is going to help me flash the unit back to the Aussie firmware if it all goes to custard. I can't recall much gear that won't downgrade / roll back.... except for Windows!

It'd be extremely interesting to compare the US and Australian versions of the 13.15.4 or 13.19.0 files against each other, just to gauge where the differences may be. Maybe I should lean hard on my Dealer for a "backup" copy of what's loaded on my car?

Will I also confirm that the Points Of Interest data is available to the navigation system, but not the Voice Recognition. I set the U-Connect to display all POI and there's a truckload of data just around my house. Of course all road names are available too as they come up manually. It simply seems VR can't access the databases, which is basically what you were telling me when I suggested the content might also have been missing

It seems such an easy problem to identify and rectify with minor new firmware release... the more I realise this, the more p!ssed off I'm getting!

Waddaya reckon? Should we give it a stab???

Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve
I would check with the dealer how much he would charge to re flash you if it all goes south, I don't think warranty would cover it, I haven't had a look at the sub menus yet but is there a chance of making your own back up through the logging onto USB menu? I know some chips copy the engine mapping so that they can return to original as required, but I am sure you are well up on this, I still can't get my vr to even acknowledge my existence, will see the dealer next week

I think if someone has a good relationship with their dealer they should ask them if they have access to the files. (13.15.4). If I understand the parts issues there I wouldn't want to have you left with an 8.4 inch brick.

I will ask SOX his thoughts....

Custard, that is great!

Mate have you given your U-Connect a multi-reboot like I described? My unit was a total snob at first, but now listens to me about as much as my girlfriend. That is, everything but the details

If you're near Maylands way...

Regards,
Steve

Re: West Aussie 2014 Overland CRD Owner

Hi Steve
I have done the soft boot using the radio buttons ten times as you said, I then wait for it to say hands free is available and then press vr and say navigate - nil, help - nil, have tried some of the other voice prompts listed in the thread but nothing , I am back to the dealer next week for the 1000 k check up and will get them to have a look, I may be just missing something, wouldn't be my first time
Should have added I am in Forrestfield, but maylands isn't far if dealer has no joy

Brace yourself Tim... and everyone else... I got a very direct answer from Lisa at CJD Osborne Park. That is... wait for it... that Voice Recognition on Australian MY14 Grand Cherokees is officially not supported. It apparently says so in the brochures now printed and "was a topic during the training course I just went on, so it's not going to happen".

Without getting p!ssed off, I explained that I purchased a vehicle that had been built and was close to landing on the express understanding that the voice recognition would overcome the lockout of navigation data entry whilst moving. I detailed the dangers it currently posed in my application. Lisa response was to suggest that I ring, or better still write to, head office... then generously offered to forward a letter if written to the dealership.

So I pose the question: has anyone been told during purchase negotiations, of the vehicle not yet available to drive, that voice recognition would not work with navigation?

Seems to me Chrysler Jeep Dodge Australia have made a decision, but not informed their minions on the ground... which is not my problem hey!

Steve
