Re: West Aussie 2014 Overland CRD Owner

Hi Steve,
My original order was for the model before, but because of production times and I wanted quadra lift, I had to make a factory order so it took 8 months and I ended up with a MY14, I was sent a brochure about my jeep and it does have the following

UconnectTM Multimedia — Media Centre 430 CD/DVD/MP3/HDD radio (RB2) - 16.5 cm touch screen, 40 GB hard drive, UConnect Phone, Voice Command and Audio Jack

— Voice Command(6) with Bluetooth, hands-free calling and Address Sync

— Media Centre 730N (RHP) - 16.5 cm touch screen, 40 GB hard drive, GPS navigation with voice command. audio jack. (Packaged with Luxury Group II)

— 6-speakers

This is for the previous model, but it looks like they supported before, I don't have the MY14 brochure, I will have a look on the dealers site

This is the link to the brochure http://www.jeep.com.au/rubberdoc/gra...s_brochure.pdf

I reckon dedicated GPS navigation units and inbuilt car GPS units are thing in the past. Smart phones with google maps navigation seem to be the new trend.

New jeep australia will tell us that our cars didn't come with ac.... so they won't have to fix the problem

I disagree entirely, every automaker is launching a new integrated telematics with GPS in the next 3 years. The Jeep is one of the first of the new units, but everyone is following suit.

I don't want to rain on anyones parade ( I don't have my SRT yet to check for myself) but I kinda recall info on this forum or elsewhere that AU would not get VR for navigation (same as not getting voice to text conversion for replying to incoming texts while in motion[which is silly as the law don't want us touching our phones/texting]).

I'm sure some bright spark will figure out how to make it work (maybe you Steve ).

From Steve's testing it appears it works just as well as the North American version that I have seen.

The POI lookup doesn't work very well in the US right now either so that doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

As basically all of the other functions work OK, I am not sure but and update may fix some of the functions. The files are in SOX capable hands right now and I am waiting to hear back if I can provide the 13.15.4 roll back if need be.

Hang on Will, I want to stay mates but doesn't the North American version actually respond to a voice request for an address or POI? That's definitely not working for anyone here. The functionality here is crippled, not just working poorly.

It is crippled in North America as well right now. It works when using yelp via the connected apps but even that is terrible right now.

POI lookup is maybe working 5% of the time over here right now so if yours doesn't work at all, you are only 5% off of the standard.

I dunno about that... but the guts for me is the salesman said the MY14 U-Connect was just like the MY13 runout we test drove "only better".

Thanks for the brochure Shertim (Tim? I really like names... I'd prefer to be Steve can't we Aussies break this trend here???) I found a gem in it, though to be clear it relates to the MY13, but hey MY14 was going to be "better".

VOICE COMMAND. It simplifies driving by letting you keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel. Vocally select radio stations, make and receive calls, select destinations and record voice memos. This smart system technology can also be trained to better recognise your voice and can understand commands in English, Dutch, French, German, Italian and Spanish

The only notes regarding this statement pertains to the feature being optional on the Limited and standard on the Overland.

Dear Chrysler, I want my better please

What about "find address" Will? Do I need to go and survey the North American part of the group, because I'm pretty sure that this command is working over there.

MY14 brochure, no direct mention of Voice and Sat Nav.

The one you posted is the MY11.

The MY12 brochure says "GPS navigation with voice command"
But that is the old system.

Thanks for the clarification. I understood it was a brochure for an older model, but took it as the most recent until now as it looked very much like the runout vehicle we test drove. Apologies I didn't check on that further... I shall be more studious. Do you have a copy of the runout model's brochure?

The MY14 brochure might be named June 2013, but it wasn't available at dealerships in Perth in late June 2013. We were told that there was no brochure available yet... all salesperson info was off the net or based on runout MY13 comparatives. Even getting an understanding of the Overland's interior trim required visits to the US site for imagery. I asked about the entertainment / navigation package and was told I would love it as it was like the runout vehicle's system, only better.

"GPS with voice command" (or "better") sounds fine to me. When is the update for that?

Cheers,
Steve
