Go on - I'll send beers or your choice of poison to WA....

Edited to add and this I suppose is a question to Will.

What happens if the install fails? What are our options with regards to getting the system operational again? Back to our current point that is.
Yeah sorry man my priorities are clearly UTS. I will do better I promise...

I think it's between the lines in Will's message and I've interpreted it, in a direct fashion, that if this install goes to shi!t and the unit becomes inoperable we will be back at our Jeep dealership with our tails between our legs. Potentially, with wallets out also.

I'm going to call the dealership now and have a chat. They should know there's a bad situation with the current system performance in my situation as I was misinformed on purchase. Hopefully they will be a bit flexible helping me (which means us) as a result.

Give me a minute and I'll report back.

Cheers,
Steve

Well the service department were pretty direct. $143 per hour to apply any firmware to return the unit to the "as supplied" state. I couldn't get them to verify which, if any, firmware versions were available at this point in time. I didn't bother asking whether they have any additional tools to recover a unit which wasn't able to be brought to the Engineering Menu to receive alternative data files. Basically, they are useless at Osborne Park service... something I have seen written in capitals by another member here.

I was going to head straight in, because I've had enough... but I decided to make an appointment with the Dealer Principal to discuss this issue overall.

I'm waiting a call back...

Ciao!
Steve

Oh... apparently Jeep Australia have not implemented Voice Recognition to Nav because it is ILLEGAL.

MY13 owners, prepare to be handcuffed.

Ah no good Steve. Ham-strung by the dealership but not a lot of options in regards to other dealerships in WA from what I understand.

I might drop a line to our dealership tomorrow and suss them out. We haven't had a lot to do with them recently (other than purchasing MY14 from them) because WK ('07) hasn't given us any issues in the last few years.

My overall thought though is, I think we do need a dealership onside first before one of us tries it. You know it would even be in their best interests (a dealership that is) to use one of their demo vehicles as a 'test' vehicle.

I wonder if Shannon et al (Werribee Jeep in Vic) where Webber purchased his from, would be worth talking too?

Webber - are you reading this? What do you think?

If you do manage to talk to the DP though, let us know how you get on.

Also, Alex at Waitara (he's a member of this forum) - I wonder if he's worth a shot. (?)

I get the impression that most (read all) will adopt Jeep Australia's position that it's not supported. I thought I might have had a better chance because of the pre-sales dialogue I experienced, but my thoughts are that the events will soon turn into a "he said / she said" which never occurred

Steve

(PS: SJandL is your name Steve too? I'm getting lost with all these new Jeep friends I'm making )

Quietly, I'm pleased I didn't call you "mate" then Sam. I don't believe I am sexist... I just don't feel right about it. Am I totally out of line with this line of thought???

Anyway, I'm really pleased to have some balance of the sexes here.

Ciao,
Steve

EDIT: Step away from the computer Steve...

Is there no end to their idiocy?????

Not only MY13 but every other dam car, and every other person with a stand alone unit that has VR.

FYI, my Navman has VR, I don't use it because it sucks. That said, you can still enter details on the move, which really is stupid, as you are not concentrating on driving, but for the Jeep, it could be the passenger doing it.

No no no - I'm not Sam. He's my husband. Man you are confused.

You can call me 'J' (I have a thing about real names on the webz).

Yes, you're out of line, especially when I love my Jeeps more than the average man.

Apologies as I have only been active here a few weeks... I thought this was the "oldest" version.

What did you have before? Have all your dreams come true with U-Connect after the upgrade?

Cheers,
Steve
