I put them in mine and the DRL's stopped working after a few days. Even after I replaced them with the OEM globes. My dealer fixed it, do not know how, I think it was a software switch, as there were no blown fuses. I am not going to try again until there is a working solution.

That is interesting. I put in Putco 3157 LED's in mine about two weeks ago. Look fantastic compared to original.
However, went and checked and found one out at low setting ie park or with headlights on although both working at high setting. Anyway, I have removed and replaced with originals for now. Fortunately, in my case all working on originals. Pity as appearance is awful compared to LED.
What is happening here? Is it an issue with the two light settings being used? Like to get back if anyone has knowledge or alternatives that work!

When you say "rewire" what needs to be done? I don't see others talking rewiring in LED threads.
Is it a case of not using a high enough LED quality? I used the Putco premium not Nova which some others seem to have had success with.
Note also both LED globes were working on "full" setting when acting as DRL. One was out only on the lower setting when the headlights were on. Or when parkers are on only.

Ken at TailLightSolutions can tell you better than I can. He posted up months ago about this problem when he was swapping the bulbs. Maybe others have never seen the problem so they don't know?

I haven't played with a non-SRT8, the lights work differently. I had to rewire mine in my SRT because they won't even lite without the rewire.

Hi Ross51,

Can I ask where you got the globes and could you please post some pics?

Many thanks

In the JG vendor area find xenon depot. Get the latest discount code and visit their site. They sell the PUTCO NOVA bulbs and have great deals for Jeep Garage members. Also their customer service is beyond great. That's important when you read about all the failures. XD will stand behind everything they sell. I am not an emp or anything just a satisfied customer. Check their vendor area for feedback.

I'm happy with the final result. The DRL's have now been in for over 2000k and 3 weeks with no problems to report. Also no signs of overheating etc and I'm keeping an eye on them. The Putco Novas are a direct swap and the methods to get to them in forums here make the job easy.

I did also change the fogs for LED. I've had a couple of tries and disapointed in result. I finally used these:

which are 7w LED's. Still not all that bright but then standard fogs are not either. A couple of the tabs do need to be trimmed and they then fit well. They are a bit of a point source because of one LED at front behind a lens but look ok.

I did a similar thing but went back to the standard globes which give a nice wide flat beam. The LEDs don't work well with the reflector and scatter the light too much. See http://www.jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=44252

Sorry, I'm fully back to standard now. The LED fogs gave a very dispersed light which was fairly useless for anything. The standard bulb gives a nice low flat beam albeit weak. I didn't have any CAN issues. I suspect that happens more with the safety related lights like blinkers and stop lights where the current level is monitored to ensure they haven't failed.

There was a time when amber was considered the only colour for fog lights.

After seeing the photos of the deteriorated DRL blub sockets in this forum (with standard DRL bulb). I also checked my DRL sockets, my DRL bulb sockets show signs of deterioration (black residue/ heat damage). I promptly disabled the DRLs. It looks to me like the sockets slowly deteriorate due to heat , the residue form the socket get deposited on the clear plastic and the reflector.
Looks like jeep need to provide a better sockets otherwise the headlight assembly will need replacement. Given that the temperature get pretty high in Australia, I expect GC to show sign of cloudy / burned DRLs within the standard warranty period.

One of the first things I did when I got mine was disable the factory DRL's by pulling the relays out. This was done at around the 1500k mark. A couple of weeks ago I put in some LED DRL's and also noticed a very slight discolouration on the globe socket.

So far the LED's haven't caused any issues.
Time will tell I guess, I have done over 1000k's since fitting them, including some very rough tracks in the Vic high country last weekend.

Hey Matty,

Which globes globes did you use? do you have a part number?

I to have pulled the relays so it would be good to have a local alternative for globes.

Cheers
