Re: wk2 Australian mopar tow bar install :(

Ah. I guess if it takes half a day and hundreds of dollars to install plus the cost of the bar at around 1200 that consistutes a bit of robbery if aussie made bars are half the cost and installed in 30minites?

Re: wk2 Australian mopar tow bar install :(

The Mopar genuine towbar is important to me for the following reasons:

a) It is a Mopar item, and
b) I know that the Mopar towbar allows fitment of an extra 75 litre fuel tank, like this one GRAND CHEROKEE WK 2014 Diesel.

I got mine for ~ 650 and it's only 2.5 hours to install, but you know how it is, Dealers/stealers gonna steal.

Re: wk2 Australian mopar tow bar install :(

I am not sure if "tow bar" is Aussie for "receiver" (for me a tow bar goes on the front but when you include fascia cutouts that sounds like the rear).

Might look at http://www.jeep4x4center.com/pdf/82212196ab-m.pdf

ps My receiver is a 52124606AD "Class IV Receiver Hitch"

Re: wk2 Australian mopar tow bar install :(

Tow bar is an Aussie layman term for basically the whole shooting match up back.

Receiver, technically, is just the 50mm square hole.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: wk2 Australian mopar tow bar install :(

I wouldn't say it is "Aussie" but yes, most people do use the incorrect vernacular.
If you say tow bar, most people will picture this rather than a hitch receiver.

Re: wk2 Australian mopar tow bar install :(

I too installed the Mopar tow bar myself last Xmas, to do it properly it is a time consuming job and cannot see how someone can do it in 30 minutes.

Moreover there is an error with the MY14 wiring instruction diagram, the reverse light cable is inside a cable loom on the RHS / driver side not LHS.

Re: wk2 Australian mopar tow bar install :(

The biggest difference in instal times between the 2 is that the rear bar has to come off the car completely for the Mopar/Best Bars towbar to be fitted. My Hayman Reese (and I suspect any other brand bar) doesn't require the removal of the rear bar for fitment, but as said, anything other than the Mopar bar doesn't allow for fitment of the LRA aux fuel tank (if that's a concern to you)

Re: wk2 Australian mopar tow bar install :(

Anyone recently had a Mopar or HR tow bar fitted and if so what $$$ were you slogged for supply and fit?

I'll ask my dealer for a quote for a Mopar unit at the 20k service, I expect a figure of ~$1200.

Cheers

XtRmn8.

Had my MOPAR bar fitted by Crusin On, Wangarra in late 2013. Was quoted by the stealer 1500 for the bar and install. Got the bar, Anderson plug, and supplied Tekonsha P3 fitted for about $1200 from memory (would need to dig out invoice to be sure).

Had a look at the HR bar but price wasn't that different.

Parkside at the time were the cheapest at about $800, based on grey matter recall on a Sunday night.

All depends on what you want. Anything other than the MOPAR Bar will mean the loss of the rear hook, but then again.......

Long range tank may be an issue with anything else as well, but are you after one? ............

If you just want to haul around 3.5 tonne without the need for dedicated rear recovery (buy a 50mm box hitch arrangement for the bar to overcome).

Horses, courses. Choice is that of the purchaser.

Regards

Adrian

Re: wk2 Australian mopar tow bar install :(

$1300 to supply and install Mopar towbar through dealer for MY14.

Found a VIC dealer selling genuine towbar kit on eBay for ~$550 delivered to my door in Perth. This price includes the ECU module plus seller it telling me it comes with a plug in harness which I have asked them to confirm.

Regardless, not paying dealer $1300 and will order the kit and fit myself I think.

If you do it yourself, you'll be removing some of the interior trim so worth running the gridline wire at the same time mate.
