Took a pic of what looks to be a CRD WK2 today at the dealership I was at. Weirdly, the window sticker showed it has the HEMI, but the metal emblem on the back was labeled CRD. I was too caught up with working out a deal on a different Jeep that I totally forgot to ask about it. Dealer joke or factory flub?
I thought those weren't gonna be available here until 2013.
I think the way it was worded is that it would be available BY 2013. Let's hope it is sooner rather than later. Hopefully it will come at the same time the new transmission is available.
I want one.....
Here in Canada, the diesel versions of SUVs generally outsell the gas versions.
Prices at the pumps today are: 87 Oct. gas $1.32/litre
diesel $1.19/litre
Yeah, my thoughts as well. Someone reaching into the wrong emblem bin at assembly. There was a VW Tiguan "TDI" at a local dealer a few months ago with the standard 2.0T (gas). Same issue.
If I may add to the conspiracy...look at the tailpipes. They are not entirely open, ie. they are slightly reduced in the inside between the finisher and the actual tailpipe. My HEMI pipes are completely open through to the muffler. If my memory serves me right, the CRD pipes are slightly tapered/smaller on the inside where the finisher meets the muffler opening.
Forgive me if I'm not using the right terminology.
I have mentioned this before, doing a recall on an 11 ram pickup with a 4.7l engine (flex fuel badge on the rear, and a 4.7l under the hood)... I was walking down the side of the vehicle and a hemi badge cought my eye. I would bet this is just a misbadge. I would also bet this is one of the factory employees smokin the reefer on his break, as its one thing to misbadge a vehicle with an actual option, its another to grab a badge that has yet to be installed on ANY of the hatches and tape it on.
I've seen similar badging/powertrain mistakes on other vehicles. At one auto show I saw a Nissan Frontier with a V6 badge on the side and a four banger under the hood. This was interesting, because in the four door 4x4 Frontiers, the 4 cyl wasn't even a factory option... it was obviously a preproduction vehicle they pressed into auto show duty.
Have to question the quality control if something that obvious passes through inspection. Nobody during the entire process thought... Hey, we don't have diesel engines?!?! Why would a north American plant even have those badges in the factory at this point?
The CRD in my guess will be a single exhaust like the current WK2 V6 (which completely outsell the V8 six to one)and the WK CRD, duals most likely will only come on the Hemi engine. Just IMO.
