Re: WK2 DownUnder

Well, I can assure you that all is not well on the land of WK2 ownership. We took delivery of our new Overland CRD in early August 2011 and as at Dec 12th it has spent a total of 17 days in the dealership attempting to solve an intermittent "non starting" issue. Currently has only 6000km on the clock. On December 12th, it went back in to have a new key recognition and starting protocol module fitted - end result completely dead Jeep. Parts required to "hopefully" get it going again, are not due in NZ until 10th Jan 2012 leaving us without a caravan tug for our planned Christmas break. I am with the help of my lawyer attempting to get my money back when I will seriously reconsider my options.

Having previously owned a new 2005 WH Limited CRD and then a 2008 WH Overland CRD, I am a reasonably committed and loyal Jeep owner. However, at this stage a V6 TD VW Touareg is starting to look like a more reliable option.

New Zealand source all their Jeep stock from Jeep Australia and is distributed here by Sime Darby, a luxury brand importer / distributor.

I have currently been given a 2003 BMW X5 3.0 petrol with 130000km as a temporary loan vehicle, and it is not rated to tow the van. It is also the thirstiest vehicle I have ever driven. Daily use around 17 - 18 lt / 100km.

My main frustration is that Chrysler / Jeep do not have a stock of vital spare parts available. 47 days off the road out of 120 days ownewership is unacceptable.

Cheers Chris

Hot days you sweat on them. Yes you can have the air on but the leather still does crack after three to four years. My previous tug a STS patrol had leather a 2005 model and was looked after being treated with leather conditioner. I ended fitting seat covers but you cant fit them to the new Grands as they have seat air bags. The cloth seats in the Laredo are a good quality and appear they will wear well. My advice would be to talk to people who have had leather seats before. I think you might be susprised by what they say. Give it some thought.

Had leather in one car for 10 years, 4 other cars for less than that, treated them maybe about two years, they lasted beautifully and looked like new when we traded the cars. Would not have anything but leather, we lived in the bush and experienced plenty of hot weather.

Mine's the same except Laredo and Quadra-lift. If you don't mind me asking, what delivery time did they quote when you placed the order?

Oh wow, I haven't heard from my dealer yet, I don't really wanna call because I'm leaving on the 1pm flight tomorrow afternoon, and don't really wanna pick up my car and just have it sit there in my garage for the next week or two.

Hope you get your car asap though, that'll be awesome

And I hope mine is ready for pickup when I get back on the 3rd of Jan.

Yeah, zzkazu is with me in Canberra, so It would've been a Port Kembla discharge.
