Re: WK2 DownUnder

The 1,000k service is more about you as the customer meeting the dealerships service personel in the hope that you will return for the scheduled servicing.

On ours, all they did was check the fluid levels, applied a TSB and that was about it.

The 1,000k "service" is free.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

The less you pay (standard unleaded) the less you get (km range).

Maybe the "every 5th tank theory" would work for an older car / engine.

Look at it this way, a car made in the 80's will only ever need standard unleaded. Compare that with the 21st century car you're driving now and the decision is made for you!

The way I see it, you've invested in a nice shiny new car with the latest technology, I'd be using the premium fuel to keep your engine cleaner and more responsive which in turn will get you further in kms not to mention being less prone to engine problems.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Thus far i've only used premium fuel, and your responses have reassured me that i'm doing the right thing.

Good to know about the 1K km service too.

Cheers

I personally would stick to 95 RON myself. Premium fuel has a higher octane rating giving more power, better fuel economy and detergents to keep your injectors cleaner. When you factor in the better fuel economy, the difference in price between 91RON and 95 RON is not that great..

Re: WK2 DownUnder

1k service should be free.
They over-tighten all my wheel nuts, let the tyres down to 28PSI.
Fixed minor pre delivery faults (shipping wax on the rear glass).

I learnt the hard way on the side of the road middle of no where jumping on the wheal brace until it broke.
Now I check them before leaving the dealership.

Also, bear in mind fuel loses its octane over time. There's a huge market where wholesalers buy and sell cheap (old) fuel to the majors (Coles/Woolies) to pass on to the unsuspecting consumers. What you are buying as 95 RON dependant on the distributor might miss the mark by a long shot. How do I know??? . BP, although the more expensive choice, is consistent with its fuel rating, no need for Fly Buys, phoney 4c/L discounts.

Had my GC Overland 5.7 for a week now, 620ks. Ordered last Dec, is exactly what I specified, and is perfect. I loved my old WJ, but this so far isjust as brilliant, I just love driving it and showing it off.

Putting on my 'Back Off' mud flaps on the weekend, my Shark Fin antenna and iPhone bracket. Allready have my cargo liner, rear rubber mat, radar detector and hemi/V8 badges installed along with the chrome fog surrounds.

I plan to keep it 10 years. (I had my old WJ for 7 1/2).

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Where did you obtain the sharkfin? I could only find "dummy" ones on the net.

I wasn't offered one. There is no mention of in the service manual. When I picked up the car they said they had already given it an oil change and to come back after 10,000km.

Hi bob. I find it interesting they had already changed your oil? Did they already fit your reversing camera?

Read the section on fuel at http://www.wk2jeeps.com/wk2_maintenance.htm . It might change your mind. Also, I've done the sums and I don't agree with your last sentence.
