Ohhhhhh Hang on. We are talking about Jeep Aust here!
My argument exactly. I actually think the Best Bar part number is not logged on Jeep inventory....anything related to the MOPAR towbar features under the MOPAR assembly or kit of parts....like you cant buy a bracket for a side step without buying the whole step. Gonna try head office in Melbourne later today and see what I can find out.....although I have a sneaky feeling an aftermarket hitch might be half the price of a Jeep supplied hitch.

Still not installed. Apparently the 4wd shop finally has the right part there now, but I still have to drive 750km to get it. It gets installed next Friday. I can let you know after that, though IIRC from the towbars in Australia thread the hook can't be fitted with the towbar. I'm just going to get a recovery hitch; that's all we use on the work cars.

I think he suspects we after that jet ski. Don't know why he would suspect... I mean expect that sort of behaviour from us weary travellers.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Afternoon All

Well having been a Ford man for the last 25 odd years (currently have a 2010 Territory AWD) the purchase of a new larger/heavier caravan has seen the need for a more powerful tow tug. We had looked at the Ford Ranger/MazdaBT50 and an Isuzu DMax but no matter how much you try and option it up............in the end you still really have a Ute, which wasn't ideal for us as an every day car!! So we placed an order for a new MY13 CRD Laredo in Bright Silver on 20NOV (not a bad birthday present ) and currently delivery is due late FEB13....cannot come soon enough!! Cheers

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Welcome, Micky, congrats on your purchase, and Happy Birthday. Mine was Nov 24 and I bought myself a 260hp supercharged death machine on the water; your present was probably more sensible.

Put a padlock on your wallet now though. I read too much here and spent a fortune on my Jeep in the months I waited to get it.

Hi Micky ... Congratulations and welcome aboard.

The best way to describe the GC is how Jeremy Clarkson once described a Maserati. To paraphrase, it's like a naughty two year old child. A few little things will annoy the crap out of you, but you will love it to death anyway.

I can confirm that the rear recovery hook cannot be re-fitted if you get an HR bar, but can be re-fitted with the Mopar bar.

As Studgun said, for recovery duties you can fit a hitch block with a rated shackle attached or just feed your tow/snatch strap into the receiver and use the hitch pin to secure it. The only negative for me in not having the rear towhook is that there is now nowhere to attach my breakaway cable independently of the towbar assembly on the rear of the car when towing my van.
