Re: WK2 DownUnder

Ally, just to revisit the controller installation for a bit.......our P3 is in the cubby (looks exactly like No1spcl's photo) and works works fine for our purpose there - I also fitted a Piranha isolator down beside the battery for the Anderson plug and accessory feed, but took the power and earth direct from the battery terminals (via 30a circuit breaker) for the controller supply.
You may already know, but when you remove the trim around the spare tyre right at the back near the tailgate latch there is a WIN antenna mounted on the inside of the plastic trim. This can be reached and disconnected easily, BUT - don't forget to look for it (I read a report of it being damaged when removing), or to replug it in. In the excitement of finishing the job and covering it all up to make the missus happy, it can be forgotten (by experience).
Also (by experience) don't be tempted to check your work by turning on the ignition or starting the vehicle while any wiring plugs are disconnected - the Jeep runs a system check and may throw a hissy fit if it doesn't see bits that should be there.
BobT's recommendation to use trim removal tools is a good one - they make it much easier to flip off bits and minimise the risk of damage. Most auto places have them in stock too.
Good luck with your multitude of wires
John

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Thanks for the advice and feedback guys. After looking at the images of Bob's install, I have ordered a Projecta 150amp isolator. I am pretty much decided to install the controller just below the light switch. I am hoping to find a piece of perspex, mould it to the curve of the dash, then mount that using velcro. The P3 bracket can bolt to that perspex. That way the dash gets no holes. I already have the trim tools, so am set there.
Now just a matter of finding the time, and courage to pull it all apart to run the wires. I even rewired the P3 plug so the wire colours are more realistic. I could not live with the config they had.
So far, for hardware, I have the
P3,
6m of 6B&S,
14m of 6mm,
150A isolator,
175A anderson,
30A circuit breaker,
printout of the trim removal pdf.
So... when are you guys going to do the job for me?

Re: WK2 DownUnder

I agree with the choice of the Bella Vista Hotel, nice venue and great food, bit of a step above the rest in the area.

Regards.............JosephR

Re: WK2 DownUnder

If you want to look at each other's cars, then the Fiddler or Ettamogah are the choice, as I think the Bella Vista has an underground carpark. Otherwise, I have heard good reports of the BV.

so... who is setting the date? 7th july?

Hey the 7th sounds fine to me - just that I wont have my Jeep. I will have a 91 model GQ Patrol with me (which I'm selling - if anyone is interested).

I did the same. Actually I didn't rewire the plug but spliced on wires with logical colours. The earth I took to the nearest earth post which was in the console area. The other three wires I took diagonally across the console, under the carpet and up to the trailer tow breakout plug. I did this simply because it seemed neater but there are other configurations. I used red for 12V power, blue for electric brakes and white for the brake lights signal. All wires were 4mm Narva with a 20A continuous rating which is plenty for my two wheeled trailer. The white needn’t have been so thick. You can see the connections in one of my photos. Unfortunately the male plug has pins only for the wires to the 7-pin flat trailer plug. Try as I might, I couldn't find a source for that type of plug nor even the pins so I had to resort to splicing. The red I spliced into the power lead on the female side via a fuse (not really necessary because it is fused at the fuse box anyway). The white was spliced into the brake light wire on the female side. As you will see, the blue electric brake wire from the 7-pin flat plug is terminated loose and appears rather puny. I considered this the weak link in my arrangement. However, when I went to splice on my 4mm blue wire, it was evident that the OEM wire had much more copper in it than my 4mm wire, so I'm not worried about the rating. I've kept the runs as short as possible to reduce voltage drop but it really isn't an issue because the P3 can be just screwed up a bit to compensate. The attached sketch of the break-out plug that might be of use.

Don't get too hung up about locating the P3 in a prominent spot. Once you get over the novilty of watching the numbers go up and down as you break, you will probably never look at it again. You will appreciate having out of sight while night driving. The important thing is that you can quickly activate the boost lever underneath when needed.

When NSW have won seven in a row then you can consider calling QLD losers. Until then, suffer in ya jocks!
