And it looks like all those new MY14 owners will need Studguns mod too. I wrote to one of our tame dealers a few days ago again asking about the recovery hooks - but a few days now and no reply.

I think I also mentioned that I followed up a couple of contacts in jeep hq who have been reliable in the past - you guessed it. No reply.

I'd love to see a photo of hooks on an MY14 and be proved wrong. I'm still skeptical.

Hoping to have a shot at the tow hooks on Monday 5th August. Hoping to pick up my Overland on Tuesday. Have ordered the tow hooks from Just for Jeeps and will be picking them up in Hawaii next Thursday. As soon as I have a go at it I will let you know either way.

So there you go, one and a half weeks and you will have an answer, unless someone else beats me too it

Re: WK2 DownUnder

I copied this photo off the Jeep Australia web brochure New 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee - The Ultimate Search Engine and enhanced it to bring out the bumper detail. It definitely shows two front recovery hooks. Of course, this is no guarantee that what lands will be the same but it will give you something to argue over.

I spoke with the dealer yesterday and he said they still only come with one recovery hook due to the same ADR Pedestrian impact restrictions that killed it on the MY12.

Of the three dealers that I have spoken to, none have gone and gotten into the nitty gritty of pulling the lower fascia off and having a proper look. Of those three, two just said they don't know and the other just used the line of only one recovery point, they went to the boot and pulled out the recovery point. So unfortunately I think they are operating from a point of they don't know and until someone is serious enough to have a go at it, we'll never know for sure. I said I'll have a go on the 5th August, but it may be the 7th at the latest. So stand by for an answer.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Hi all.
Here's a question for those of you that have installed a power feed for their fridge/battery for their caravan.
My MY14 CRD 12 pin 20 amp caravan power socket doesn't work. (7 pin trailer lights ok)
The reason is relatively simple.
Redarc battery controller 'releases' the current at 13.2 volts.
The charging/alternator voltage of my jeep is 13.1 volts. Thus no power is released.
It is due to back to the installer but I'd like to know the best solution before hand.
All professionally done and very neat.
Power and isolator all installaed in the battery compartment.
All hooked up direct to the battery.
I'm concerned if the 'solution' is to get an ignition feed from other parts of the car to run a relay which in turn then upsets any of the canbus system (out of my league at this point...).
Any help appreciated.
Cheers
Andrew

Andrew,
You should ask your question in the towing thread. In any event, The Jeep uses a variable output alternator, so not all controllers will be compatible. I seem to recall reading somewhere, probably on Redarc's site, that you need the "low voltage" version.
If you are after an ignition feed, you might try from the Aux Power socket in the cubby, or the one near the sub woofer.

I've checked my second battery on a number of occasions to make sure it is charging OK - I've seen 13.5v and 13.7v at different times. Depending upon the charge in the main battery it can take a while before the second ones starts to charge up - maybe up to 5 mins. I'm using a ABR Sidewinder DBi-140 isolator - 13.2v cut in, 12.4v cut out, without any problems.

You can pick up an ignition feed from the Aux power as allypally says - I'd recommend a relay and separate fuses, you won't have any problem from the canbus - canbus does not monitor the 12v sockets.
