Cheers,
Steve

Yeah I previously posted they open it up. They solder in a ribbon and add some module. The thing is turned on via volume control, then everything else is touch screen just like your Limited EXCEPT it is I Go Primo and works well.

When you have Jeep enthusiast dealer from Northern Beaches Suttons telling you there is a sat nav in the process of being added to Laredo and Jeep will cover it...what do you believe.

I found it highly dubious....YET...

They stated they'd done over 40 installs, nil problems.

One dealer in Victoria had on their website Aftermarket sat nav for Laredo upgrade FREE. Dealer told me they had to pull it down as they had to many sat nav units on back order and many uopset Laredo owners waiting for their install.

So dealers in NSW and Victoria were/are doing the installs....what would you think if you were told all was good.

Well for three months prior to signing up I pounded them and the supplier of the unit for info and confirmation it would not present an issue with Jeep.
All good from everybody.

So when I signed the contract I had the dealer add a clause that the sat nav would not affect the jeep warranty. Gutless tossers (oh thats a bit harsh) stated on the contract that "the sat nav unit will be supplied with 3 years warranty". Thats not what I asked them for but thats what they thought would placate me.

So I pursued Jeep Australia on the same matter and at first they were telling me it was not a problem.

It was only after I asked them to put it in WRITING that they stated emphatically that they would not do that and that it would void the warranty.

So there you have it......No I did not believe them even for a micro second, that is why I so aggressively sort out the truth.

I do not believe anything I am told by the dealer or Jeep Aust at this point in time because the goal post keep shifting.

If I wasn't such a toey prick and some easy walk all over me, fill me full of bull shyte type, then I'd have a cherry red GC with a Hi Tv sat nav unit in it ready to be picked up end of this month. AHHHHHHHH!

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Rocks,
Just to clarify your statement about voiding the warranty, they would only deny a claim that resulted in damage to the head unit, not the whole car.
The warranty for the head unit would rest with whoever installed the HiTV. Do not be scared by dealer speak and BS.

Hey that sounds alright

Seriously, there's no way I'd sign up for the finger pointing which would ensue if there was a problem associated with a soldered onto Uconnect head unit. You'd just know you'd be up for the $4k at the end of it!

It'd be interesting though if you'd accidentally recorded one of these myth promoters telling you it's all covered. Personally I think recording stuff should be legal... I never, ever, mislead anyone. Maybe it's due to the absence of a tie... I don't know.

Cheers,
Steve

G'Day Enforcer,

Cop ex-cop or what?, Three and a half years in the job a long time ago.

I perceive the major problem here to be that the head unit is the thing that drives many of the functions in the vehicle. Thats my belief.

Now if the functions from the head unit are playing up and many people are going thru this and 'running into brick walls'....what will I hit?

Isn't the head unit the Uconnect/Rj3 radio and all its connectivity?

Cheers.

The Uconnect system is the input control for Audio and HVAC. You can disconnect the uconnect and still drive the car. Some features such as driving preferences, audio and HVAC may not work, but the car will still start and run fine. Think of it as a nozzle on a hose. You use it to alter the water coming thru the hose, take it away, and you still have water coming thru the hose, you just can't regulate it. There seems to be a common misconception that the Uconnect is the brains of the car. It is only the brains of the creature comforts, and primarily an input device, where you as the driver ask it to do things. It then sends the input signal to one of many other modules to action your input.
Eg: you want to set temp to 20. You set the temp to 20 on the Uconnect, it sends a command via the bus to the HVAC module which then adjusts the AC to give you what you asked for.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

I can see you have a SRT, so it will make a minor difference to the performance.
There should be no problem using this fuel.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

I only use 98 in mine.

Would happily use 100 but no local United's to me.
