Hi ZekiAU,

I received this from Willx in response to a post I made in the Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal? thread.

Quote "When they confirmed the scope of affected vehicles ALL deliveries to dealerships were stopped. Rail cars that got unloaded had vehicles sidelined until they got issues addressed. If there were trucks already on the ship and departed or were in the care of the third party shipper, there was no way to stop them from continuing on." End Quote

So I believe you are on the right track. Cannot speak for HVAC issues (haven't heard of that one yet....) but it seems Jeep held back all the vehicles that were assembled with faulty axles, for the remedial work. Those vehicles that had already been released from Jeep control (That is, were now in the fright forwarders control), carried on to their shipping destination. That includes a fair number of fellow Aussies who have vehicles on their way across the seas as we speak.

Those vehicles may end up being to delivered defective to their awaiting owners. Your vehicle might be delayed but at least you'll get it a be able to drive it without fear of the CV boots coming adrift and requiring the front axles replaced.

For US owners, it seem Jeep US will not change out bad axles until they fail, ie, they will not change them out pre-emptively. Seems idiotic to me.

What's the bet Jeep Aust will do the same?

Good luck with your vehicle.

To give you some comfort we have just hit the 25000km mark ......(deleted for brevity)..... and she remains faultless.

I know the lack of VR with regards to the Nav is an outstanding issue but I'm sure that will be addressed at some stage. That is the only outstanding on the vehicle that we took delivery of some 10 months ago.

SJandL,

Glad to read that you are happy, and I am happy for you.

Yes, the checklist could apply to any make/model of vehicle, it's just that in Marks case, he knows the vehicle has problems. You even endorse this by stating that your vehicle has defective VR on Navigation (yet, your cars faultless?)

So I'll use a detailed checklist, like Mark and others, in the hope that I don't find anything wrong with the car, but should I find a defect, the dealer will know upfront that I wont take delivery of a KNOWN defective vehicle.

Horses for courses, I guess...

I'll even pop the hood (that's bonnet in my language) and check there is an engine in there (thanks for the tip Snuke); I'll even check there is air in the tyres.

Note to self, add those two to the list.......

Sarcasm: The lowest for of wit.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Gr8Ness - Yes, our vehicle is faultless and I do not regard the VR Sat Nav issue as a fault as such.

Basically, the argument with regards to this feature is whether it should have been published in the Aust brochure in the first place. I suspect it was not supposed to be there - I don't know (?) but I do not see this as a 'fault' equivalent if you like, to say an HVAC or a PCM fault if you know what I mean.

So when I say my vehicle is faultless, I disregard the VR Sat Nav issue.

Are you going to reject taking delivery of your vehicle over the lack of VR Nav functionality?

Certainly after reading JG, and the issues that have been posted you would be forgiven for thinking 'what on earth am I buying?'

But take heart, it's the old story that the happy owners never post their happiness. You only read about the issues.

Well I'm posting my happiness - It's a damn good vehicle as I'm sure you will find out once you take delivery.
Guess it is for that exact reason - having the long wait for the vehicle and having the time and opportunity to read about all the issues that are happening with other owners gives me concern regarding the quality of the car and what after care will be available.
I know every make and model has their issues but Jeep seems to have been caught with their pants down and their bare bum flapping in the breeze when it comes to parts, availability of accessories and general customer care!

However you are very correct when saying that the happy customers are not here posting how happy they are too often, it is mostly owners with issues looking for some direction from other unfortunate owners that have already been through it.

I am still hoping for a really nice issue free ride, with tracking she is due in port on the 18/05/2014 however there are no car carriers due into Freo at that time? I will go down and see what the dealer has to say tomorrow morning.

Hopefully the wait for me is just about over and I can start enjoying the new ride

Hello SJandL,

I must agree with you there. The VR Sat Nav issue is not a 'functional' failure as such. I personally consider it to be more of a marketing/advertising failure. So, would I reject taking delivery of the vehicle over the lack of VR Nav functionality? No.

I am more concerned with those functional defects/failures that are clearly meant to work. They just don't function as designed, or are unreliable. Especially if they have a safety implication.

DPF blockages that rob the vehicle of power and can and have resulted in placing Jeep drivers (and other road users around them) in a degree of danger. Consider the Jeep driver in the fast lane of a four lane motorway, who's car goes into limp mode resulting in deceleration to 75kph (and now won't change out of 2nd gear) with traffic closing from behind with a speed differential of approx 25kph. (remember this is an involuntary decrease in speed and no brake lights to warn traffic closing from behind) All while trying to get to the left shoulder on a busy motorway. Do I consider that a safety implication? You betya.

So Diesel Particulate Filter clogging/forced limp mode and CV boots with the possibility grease on brakes are my 'red flag' concern items which I can't and won't disregard as they are important to me. Why, because I don't think Jeep should be allowed to sell a product that is known to be defective (CV boots) or a failure of a system (DPF) could result in an unsafe situation for the Jeep driver or other road users.

Consider the recall by Stokke AS of a baby stroller that worked fine but was recalled because a safety warning label wasn't attached on a strap as designed. They had the defective units identified by serial number. (And no, I don't work for Stokke AS) That's what I expect of Jeep. Pro-active.

The CV boot bands are known to be defective, and Jeep must surely know which vehicle VIN's where assigned to the cars assembled with these defective items. Why not just change them out before delivery to the customers. Same could be said for the DPF issue if that is caused by a defective DPF, or if it is a software programming issue, allow owners to choose to come in for the upgrade if they are concerned. The decision to do nothing until a customer vehicle presents with the problem seems counter-productive to me.

I sincerely hope to be a happy poster on this site in the future, extolling the virtues of the GC like you, Snuke and Studgun. I really do. A fully functional and reliable JGC Diesel Overland is the perfect (well, nothings perfect but I think you get what I mean. As close to perfect as you can get) vehicle for me, my family and our intended use. That's why we bought one. But if it isn't what I paid for ......

Interesting article GM fined $35m over deadly defect | Stuff.co.nz (I'm not suggesting Jeep is in the same situation, ...yet, and let's hope, never)

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Going to talk to my dealer now about the CV joints issue. I might come back happy or go start looking at buying a limited thats already available from a different dealer.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

If your car has the "boot vulnerability" you could probably push them off by hand. So give them a shove when doing your pre-delivery checks...

Your dealer can only do warranty on what's authorised. If JA say it has to fail first, then "make it so"

Cheers,
Steve

Went to see the dealer this morning!
The boat is due into Freo Port on the 20th Something about it going to South Aust first instead of coming straight to the West?
Not sure what kind of time frame it will be between arriving into port and getting released to the dealer? But one would have to think it wont be too much longer

Funny thing is that his first words from the dealer were
"Oh I bet you heard about the Navigation issues?"
I just smiled and said "yeah that old news have you heard about the front CV Boot issues?" and showed him a couple of pics out of the forum here - he really did seem surprised that there had not been a recall issued from Jeep and why they had not received any notifications and knew nothing about it.

Fingers crossed the boot issues are restricted to a portion of the supplied batch instead of the WHOLE Batch and there wont be too many people effected.
Stiil feel the pain of the owners that are effected by the issues

The waiting is awful Mark especially considering it is so close. You guys over West always have the longest wait for anything really - it must get annoying at times.

Gr8Ness - Yes agree with your summation with regards to the VR Nav issue. A marketing failure but maybe it will come good. Well let's hope so.

I'm a bit leary of another potential one as well at the moment and are not getting my hopes up. I have seen a doc from CJD Aust that states that the '14 KL (Cherokee) will come with Remote Start.

Now, admittedly it was not a marketing brochure that I saw, but it was clearly listed as being available on the doc that I did see from CJD Aust.

Time will tell.
