I fully understand that, but these are still all what ifs. When mine was coming in we had the Uconnect failures and the arrival of DPF failures taking cars off the road. A couple of rough idling engines that still have those cars off the road.
There were a spate of people getting mighty caught up in the what ifs of a DPF issue too (BennO can tell you all about that). Again, not much you can do until it is actually an issue. As such stop worrying as there is NOTHING you can do about it now. Understand the problem, be informed and leave it at that, beyond that it is all out of your control. If it is an issue for you, then get deal with it then. I prefer to invest my emotional energy into certainties not possibilities.
My other half is someone who gets all caught up in the possibility of problems, and it is such a waste of energy.

You had real problems with your delivery, and dealt with them as they arose, this should be no different.
There is something I can do about it..... Monitor the numbers..... Began discussions with my dealer to mitigate this issue....
Made Dealership with several outlets aware as previously unaware...

The real problems I had earlier the After market sat nav and wrong colour delayed build and delivery, pale into insignificance with respect to this issue which is far more wide spread than many AND I'm not so sure the DPF issues and others are fully resolved.

And just how many problems must one endure and deal with as they arise before realising Jeep don't have there finger on the pulse with respect to any of these issues.

God forbid something should put your vehicle off the road for 5 months or more, perhaps your posts and demeanour would be substantially different or maybe not.

Anyway this is about checking the numbers and mitigation of the POSSIBLE cv boot issue which is really a front axle issue with a fault and few to no spare parts... What parts there are will be assigned to suit Jeep not their customers... You know that right!

Have a great day.

It's probably a good thing your wife gets more emotionally invested.... Ying and Yang works for most couples.

Cheers.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

So as I said in my build thread, I had a guy drive up from sydney in his 2012 wk2 to buy my original wheels, he previously had this failure on the passenger side cv. Grease all over the wheel, had to replace the axle and hub. Seems to be a fairly common occurrence even outside these build dates.

At that point I would be pissed and act accordingly, stomp my feet loudly and walk in small circles swearing

I used to get tied in the endless what ifs, but it achieved nothing but wasted energy. So I learned to just be aware of the possible issues, but not assign any form of worrying to it until it was actually warranted.
This whatever will completely suck if it happens, lets deal with it when and if we have to.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

For the people worrying about the CV issue and waiting on their cars to arrive.

IF your car has this problem, you are entitled to a suitable loan car until the problem is rectified. If they do not provide you with a suitable loan car, file an official complaint with the ACCC and go to the nearest car rental place and choose a suitable rental. Jeep AU must pick up the bill for this. You are also entitled to compensation for insurance/rego/pcar payments during this period.

You are also entitled to reject the delivery, IF the parts will not arrive in a reasonable amount of time <4weeks. I would expect that CV's would be considered a major failure as they are not fit for propose and will take the car off the road for a long time if parts are not available.

Before you worry however, not every car made in late March & April are affected by this problem.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

I tend to echo Snuke's and Enforcer's sentiments. I feel many of you are panicing about something which probably will have no effect on you.
You are fortunate to have knowledge of the issue, so are in a position to take the necessary steps to ensure the outcome is in your favour.
If worried, would be insisting on 2 things prior to parting with cash.
1. Request a written confirmation from the dealer that your new car is not in the batch of faulty builds.
2. Request an inspection of those axles prior to delivery.
They cannot sell you a car which is not fit for purpose, so you are in a position to manage this. You might get them to confirm the outcome if you were to face the problem within the next few months. Will they provide an equivelent mode of transport if your car is off the road?

Also Agree, I am just waiting until I get to see the vehicle.
If it is clear the issue is present then I will assess my options then, If there is no signs of the issue I will be ensuring that I get something in writing saying that if there is an issue in the future where the car will be off the road, a suitable loan car will be provided.

We can only hope, but either way getting all tied up in knots before it actually happens doesn't really help anything.

I am just really thankful for the heads up, without it I would not have even thought about demanding a loaner in writing IF it happens.

And we all know that the dealers are all very willing to accommodate your wishes UNTIL the deal is done and you take possession.

I spoke to my Jeep Dealer about this in length (took a sickie to go speak to him First thing This morning) and explained him what my concerns are. He is willing to put in writing that I will be given a loan car (he is not sure which will be available but I will push for a GC) before I take the delivery of my GC.

Push comes to shove I will go to State and Territory Consumer Protection about this and am raise HELL for Jeep AU!! I might even go to ACA or TT for that matter .. may be not.. not willing to go that low..

As I previously stated I have had discussions to mitigate said problem with my dealer which involves all of the recommendations folks are currently making.

My problem will be getting a loaner from another dealer in another state who may not feel as obligated to provide same.

Good to note that JA would have to reimburse rental hire should a loaner not be available BUT do we know this for certain?

At this stage until I get the written confirmations from the dealer I am not convinced that I would proceed.

Cheers

Re: WK2 DownUnder

I just spoke to the dealer regarding this and he said that Chrysler will provide a loaner car if the new car is off the road due to safety issues like this one.

BTW he is not aware of this specific issue yet.

I will still get a written confirmation at the time of delivery tough.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Had my gc diesel laredo 4x4 for two weeks and am about to take in for 1000k check. so far vehicle is great!
I have a number of queries re reasonable expectations mainly on finish and whether the rectification may be worse than status quo. Build date is 10th feb so I took a close look on the underside for cv issues etc.
All the axle stubs and main drive shaft have rust is this normal ie no galvanising or rust prevention?
Same for the exhaust system all bare welds and hangers are rusty?
Some small scatches on tail gate is a touchup going to be noticable?
Small raised pimple under the paint on front passenger sill, remove and touchup or leave?
u connect, i was assured was the latest. Is the laredo the same update as the other models? currently it is 13.51.11
After touching the media button a small 'map' symbol pops up intermittantly in the upper right corner, touch it and it appears to have start cycle. Is there any physical difference between the u connect units for australian laredo and other models or is it just software?
The plastic windscreen vent on top of the dash on the passenger side is raised slightly, moves when pushed & is not set in like the drivers side. Can/should this be rectified?
Drivers side rear light lens assembly is loose compared to the passengers side which is tightly secured. Can/should this be fixed?
Steering wheel has a small loose flap of leather on the back. should I just cut it off, glue it down or get it fixed? It is not visible from drivers position but is mildly annoying when moving hands in corners.
It has a cd player, is that normal for the laredo?(i would prefer to have the extra bin space)
a cargo net was in the equipment listing but not supplied, ( not fussed but is it supposed to be supplied?) maybe it can be negotiated for the
missing reversing camera. how long should i wait before a). spitting the dummy. b) installing my own. c) insisting that the camera is the same as the other models. In the brochure, it states that the laredo should have a 'parkview' registered trademark rear backup camera the same as the other models but dealer fitted.
note; my mopar towbar came with a neoprene buffer around the tongue( instead of underpants)
thanks in advance
