I hadn't heard of that one, at first I thought it would simply stay still, but that stupid as the planes engine isn't driving the wheels.

Yes, that is the conundrum.... there have been very long threads on the answer to that riddle, don't want to derail this one

I remember the old riddle How is it possible to be constantly accelerating yet maintain the same speed?
By being in orbit or sky diving at terminal velocity. But this is a dry answer and I hope the answer to the riddle is more amusing.

Don't know that one. Please tell us. It might be like the one about 2 tons of canaries in the back of a 1 ton van.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

anyone know if there is any difference in the performance of the 3.6L engines between vehicles that have one exhaust pipe and those that have two? Referring to MY14 4x4 models only. I notice some have 1 exhaust like Laredo but Limited have 2.

You can google it, mythbusters did a show on it. The solution to the problem depends on your interpretation of whether a conveyor belt can possibly match the same speed as the plane and prevent it from moving forward:

A plane is standing on a large treadmill or conveyor belt. The plane moves in one direction, while the conveyor moves in the opposite direction. This conveyor has a control system that tracks the plane speed and tunes the speed of the conveyor to be exactly the same (but in the opposite direction). Can the plane take off?

Sorry if I just destroyed the thread.....

I'm not sure on this, but I'd expect a 2nd exhaust pipe would help with low end torque. Bit hard to say without driving both.

It would have to be worded differently than that though. Those words already indicate the plane is actually moving, so all else is irrelevant.

It actual indicates 2 things, that the plane moves and that it doesn't. It's a test of thinking.

The plane would move. The engines generate thrust on the surrounding air which isn't influenced by the conveyor belt. The wheels turning on the conveyor belt and the speed is irrelevant.

In order to prevent the plane moving they would have to accelerate the air in the same direction as the generated thrust, at the same speed relative to the thrust generated. But obviously if this was the case the plane would generate lift and gain altitude. It wouldn't move relative to the wind acceleration equipment if it could keep up with the thrust generated however

Anyone know what the black rings around the front grille on the Blackhawks are called?
