Apparently that was always the case. I highlighted this earlier in another thread and was told by another member this was also the case earlier. Not surprising noting that the bonnet has not changed.

Another lack of attention to detail from parts manufacturers/.

Nice sunset. Hope you captured with a camera, and not the iPhone.

Is there no bonnet protector for the 2014 model?? I've ordered a bonnet protector so am interested to see what they will provide.

Gidday Red PeeKay,

Noting the comment by adriwood;

"Apparently that was always the case. I highlighted this earlier in another thread and was told by another member this was also the case earlier. Not surprising noting that the bonnet has not changed. Another lack of attention to detail from parts manufacturers."

I suspect you will get the same bonnet protector as I did. While a pain in the butt, it is not hard to modify. The problem is interference with where the bonnet mounted latch is.

[I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that the "designer" (and I use that term very loosely) of the bonnet protector did so, without taking the latch into consideration]

What is required is a small re-shaping of the bonnet protector where it interfaces with the latch. I had my darling wife hold the bonnet protector in place while I traced around the bonnet latch. I then placed the bonnet protector on the bench and removed the problem area, as traced (plus a couple of millimetres to allow for sideways adjustment to get it centred on the bonnet), using my "Renovator" power tool with a plastic cutting blade attached. I then smoothed off the edge with a fine file. Not a perfect job and there are probably a dozen ways of doing it better, but unless you are going to drive around with the bonnet up, no-one is going to see it.

Total time taken was about 90 to 100 minutes. Most of that spent cursing Jeep and procrastinating.

$115 from Albion Jeep parts department, just in case you want to know.

Gr8Ness.

Photos of Bonnet Protector fitment.

I told you it wasn't perfect.

As you can see taking a little more out, than the initial trace, is worthwhile if you want the adjustability of getting it dead centre on the bonnet.

I blame the initial misalignment on my wife ......

Re: WK2 DownUnder

If you don't have an oscillating tool, a coarse flap disk on a small angle grinder works pretty well on polycarbonate. Take small gentle "bites" at the material, as sustained contact will cause melting rather than abrading.

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks Gr8Ness, the dealer is doing it, so I will assume they will take care of it in the appropriate manner, however I will be double checking their work!!

WK2 DownUnder

The Mrs is doing the last stint back into Sydney. Gulp!

Another long drive today - Eden to home. Left there just after lunch and came back via batemans bay and braidwood. Maybe we will be able to spend more time next time traveling this great area - when we are old and grey I guess... Sigh.....

Not missing. Supposed to be that way. Passenger side rubber "protects" the air intake.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

It was great news when, earlier this year, the Jeep Grand Cherokee made the top 10 list of the best selling cars in Australia. Averaged about 1,300 sales per month.

The new car sales for May 2014 are in. The JGC has now jumped to #7 on the list with May sales reaching 1,695 As a comparison, for May 2013, JGC sales were 560.

Top 10 in sales and next to last in customer service. Way to go JA! Just goes to show, despite their best efforts to piss people off the car still sells. Must be a great product when it all works!
