You're probably not wrong there Barboots; the 'perks' of course chip roads.

I am also wanting to break up the 'expanse' of white on the front of my vehicle and was going to apply a matte black film to the grill (between the headlights). Whilst not providing complete protection, it will help and is easily peeled off and reapplied if looking tacky.

I want to do the same to the wheels, matte black coating, not for protection, just for the look. I was told to look at Hydrographics.

Amazing is right maxy9.

I don't know who thought this idea up but he/she is bloody clever.

I have watched numerous youtube demos of this hydrographics process and I have heard it said in many that to aid durability, they spray a clear coat over the top (the more the better) to add layers of protection. After hardening you can high pressure water blast it and it won't come off.

What that means though is, I would have to take all four wheels off (car on blocks?), remove all tyres and tyre pressure monitors/valves off, take them to the hydrographics place for the application and clear coat application. Then the reverse would have to happen, so a few days and a lot of co-ordination. It sure looks good though.

I wonder what a carbon-fibre pattern on my 20's would look like.....

That's not a ding! It's a vortex generator. Makes the car go faster.

I told you it wasn't perfect.

As you can see taking a little more out, than the initial trace, is worthwhile if you want the adjustability of getting it dead centre on the bonnet.

I blame the initial misalignment on my wife ......
Hmmm, interesting. I checked the bonnet protector fitted to my car and it fits perfectly with no modifications. I suspect they have bodgied up an older model to make it fit the new model.

Awesome process. Might make some enquiries.

Anyone had it done?

Not sure bout hydrographics but I plasti dipped the 20'' in matte black myself. took less than an hour and they do look good. If I have to do them again.. i will add the glossifier to it to make it come up a bit more. I wanted to do the matte black on the panel near the grill as well (like the SRT).. but waiting for a chrome honeycomb grill to be delivered from ebay..

here is a pic of mine with black wheels to give you an idea of plast dippd wheels.

Looks sharp race4life.

I was looking at the matte black plasti dipping, and I haven't dismissed it yet; just concerned about my ability to apply it evenly and neatly. I've watched a few youtube demo's to get some hints and watch the technique of application.

Did you remove the wheels from the car before you applied the plasti dip? If not, what do you think will happen when you need to remove the wheel nuts. I imagine the plasti dip on the wheel nuts would be ruined, and when 'breaking' the join between the plasti dip on the wheel nut and the wheel, that may make a mess in that area also.

If you did remove the wheels, did you apply it to both 'sides' of the wheel (inside and outside)? Did you mask the inside face where it interfaces with the hub?

How many cans did it take for all four wheels?

I'm also thinking of doing the door mirrors.

Just a FYI, the SRT have gloss black on their grill surrounds.
