Your figures are nothing to be concerned about, and maybe due to low klms on the car?
that's interesting. I assumed it was because the van is the Outback version and sits 3000mm high in towing configuration, so it ia lot higher than the vehicle.
I'm going to have to look into this a bit more...

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Has it been established whether consumption and/or temperatures are consistent between the MY11-13 and MY14 during equivalent use? Obviously this is hard to determine accurately, however has a trend been noted?

Cheers,
Steve

Re: WK2 DownUnder

I would have thought that the MY14, with the 8 speed, as opposed to the MY12 with 5 speed, would be more efficient, and therefore less thirsty.
Mind you, if the 8 speed tends to sit on a higher gear, it could be that it is labouring more, and therefore a fraction thirstier.
Only true way to compare would be the same van, on the same road, with the different models.
A higher van, with more wind resistance would also factor differences.

A query to all, with regard to fuel consumption and a CRD, after how many kilometers should I expect to reach peak efficiency. I gather reading many posts, the engine gets "run in" over a period of time and one begins to see better fuel consumption. My query is, in ball park terms, is this after 10k or 20k for this diesel motor?

My figures are higher than quoted by Jeep, however I also acknowledge I have added additional weight to the vehicle (bull bar, bash plate and underbody protection) and am running BFG AT's (greater rolling resistance). Of course has nothing to do with being a somewhat impatient driver .

Re: WK2 DownUnder

One shouldn't get too hung up about comparing fuel consumptions. On or off-road driving is as about as far from a controlled environment as one can get. There are too many variables. The big three are:
  1. Form factor - that is, the frontal area of the car, roof-rack and van combination,
  2. Prevailing wind direction, and
  3. Average speed of the trip.
A small variation in any of these will greatly influence fuel consumption. Tyre pressure and driving styles are also factors but of lesser significance. So when Pete(Peter.T) compares his towing experience to Toowoomba with Peter's(pcrraa) trip across the Nullarbor, it's interesting but not too much should be read into the differing fuel consumptions.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Front diff seal and right half shaft replaced today. Had left half shaft done last week

Was totally gob smacked when I collected the beast, car was filthy after trip to Sydney on the weekend just gone, was very muddy where we stayed.

The dealership detailed it for me no charge, I am shocked.

That's serious work. What did you do to the half shafts?

It was a recall for the CV boots, clamps not tight then they leaked grease. There is I topic on this forum about it. Dealer was waiting on parts to be available.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

I've been blasting around the Western suburbs today, geez this car is a joy to drive, not only the power, but the brakes are such a change to my previous cars, and even the missus' car. It just stops!

I'm up to 3,000kms over 4 months. The school run in the diesel has been getting me about 15l/100km (a 2 min drive in hilly area, ECO off). Longer runs in the suburbs, a little 80kph highway driving, and car parks, etc about 13l/100km. And mixed suburban shops/school run/highway to the coast 9.5l/100kms. Highway tends to be ECO mode, suburbs tends to be a bit of ECO off in hilly areas and when overtaking/merging.

I used Sport mode the other day outrunning an RX8 through hilly roads.....

Yeah, I embarrassed a bloke in an SS Bogan Bus early one morning on Epping Rd. He didn't know about the speed camera on the corner of Wicks Rd until the flashes went off

By that time I'd backed off and he was well past me
